The Brownstone Lounge: Great for High-Stakes Chats, Terrible for Getting a Drink ​I have given the Brownstone Lounge exactly two chances, and both times it felt like entering a parallel universe where paying customers are just an annoying interruption to the staff's social calendar. ​On my first visit, the bar was a ghost town. When I finally located the bartender, he was deeply ensconced in a corner, holding a high-stakes conversation with another patron about absolutely nothing. Instead of pausing to acknowledge a human being who wanted to purchase a beverage, they simply stared and continued their chat. When I finally asked, "Who’s actually the bartender here?" he begrudgingly claimed the title, scrutinized my passport, and then had the audacity to audibly call me rude for interrupting his very important meeting. Silly me for thinking a bartender's job description included pouring drinks. ​Months later, I foolishly tried again. This time, I walked into the absolute biggest sausage fest imaginable. Unless you are actively searching for a strictly male-dominated crowd served with a heavy side of sour attitude, it is an absolute skip. I took one lap down the length of the bar, executed a swift about-face, and marched right back out the door. ​Save yourself the trouble and head straight to Sturges Speakeasy instead. I detoured there immediately after my prompt departure, and it was a breath of fresh air. Sturges gives you that beautiful, nostalgic illusion of stepping straight into Cheers—a sanctuary where the bartenders are absolutely fantastic, everyone knows your name, and they actually remember your drink. Unless the Brownstone decides to diversify their menu beyond a basic sausage fest with sauerkraut, I won’t be crossing their threshold again.

Been going there fairly often over the past year or so. This evening someone played a song that was patriotic/ supportive of the USA on TouchTunes and the owner immediately stopped it. Have had a very cordial/friendly relationship with the owner for a while. Asked the owner if she stopped the song (she works for a company who does federal contacting exclusively - her income comes from federal tax dollars) and she said she did. I left my half finished beer and cashed out. She made no effort to explain. Don't see me ever returning to the Brownstone. Disappointing!
