Warning to foreign visitors: we were rejected entry because our international government issued driving licence wasn’t accepted as ID, not to mention the fact we clearly look over 25. Never experienced this issue in the US before so sadly didn’t experience the warm souther hospitality at this venue on this occasion.
A rude interaction with staff at the door was enough to make us reconsider coming back. My husband and I have been coming here pretty regularly over the past several months, usually a couple of times a month. We’re always happy to pay the cover and typically spend around $70 on drinks, so this isn’t coming from someone who just showed up once. Last night, the interaction at the door set the tone immediately. As usual, we went through the metal detector and I got my wallet ready to pay for both of us. The staff member working the Square terminal only rang up one cover. When I politely clarified that I was paying for two, she visibly rolled her eyes and responded with a noticeable delay and attitude. It was uncomfortable and completely unnecessary. With such a small crowd, the atmosphere really depends on the staff and overall vibe, and it felt unwelcoming from the start. It’s honestly a shame because it felt like we were just starting to become regulars in our own small way. Our preferred bartender had started recognizing us and even our orders, which made the place feel familiar and worth coming back to. We’ve had good nights here before, which is why this was so disappointing. I don’t expect a perfect night every time I go to Al’s, but basic courtesy at the door goes a long way, especially for a place that relies on repeat customers.
Service was outstanding and the entertainment was amazing 👏
