via Stay22About this place Malolo B&B
Malolo B&B is a guesthouse in Marshal Heights, one of Washington D.C.’s historic neighborhoods.
This isn't a hotel, it's a home. A bed and breakfast run out of a house, which means you get that personal touch you'd never find at a big chain. Think more like staying with friends, if your friends were particularly good hosts.
It's also explicitly LGBTQ+-friendly, a place where gay and lesbian travelers can feel comfortable and accepted. Chef George Lopez co-owns and runs the place, which probably explains why the food is often better than you'd expect from a B&B. His touch gives this old house a real personality.
Marshal Heights itself has a historic feel, a quieter corner of D.C. with its own rhythm. And for LGBTQ+ visitors, D.C. has plenty going on, from nightlife to museums to community spots. A B&B like Malolo gives you a base for seeing the city that’s a bit more personal than the usual hotel experience. Check malolobandb.com for details and to book.

What a wonderful little gem. George and Dave are wonderful hosts and every morning George would have a delicious breakfast with a fruit spread, eggs made to order, a meat option like chicken sausage or turkey patties or corned beef hash. The room was gigantic and very clean with its own bathroom. I highly recommend. Thank you gentlemen.
A Stay We’ll Never Forget – More Than Just a Bed & Breakfast Chef George and David were, without a doubt, the highlight of our entire trip to D.C. From the moment we arrived, they welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like part of their family. Their warmth, generosity, and attention to detail turned our stay into something truly special. As someone with a black pepper allergy and a vegetarian diet, I’m used to navigating limited food options while traveling—but not here. Every single breakfast was thoughtfully prepared to meet our needs, and beyond being allergy-safe, everything was absolutely delicious. It happened to be my husband’s birthday during our stay, and they went above and beyond—surprising him with a handmade card, a thoughtful gift, and even a birthday banner. It was incredibly touching and meant the world to us. Our room was spotless and cozy, cleaned meticulously every single day. But the magic of this place went beyond comfort. Every morning, we sat down to engaging, heartfelt conversations with George and David—full of local tips, great stories, and genuine connection. Those breakfasts became the heart of our trip, and we’ll carry those memories with us forever. We actually miss them already. It’s rare to meet people who make you feel so at home, and we’re already counting the days until we can return. Thank you, George and David, for making our first time in D.C. so unforgettable. We’ll be back soon—with full hearts and big hugs.
George was fabulous! Welcoming and hospitality on point. Wonderful breakfasts and different each morning. Even made us a cocktail when we'd had a long and strenuous day, very kind and thoughtful. Room was very warm, comfortable and had everything you'd need. Bed was comfy and bathroom lovely. Quiet and spacious. Location is in an up and coming area, but at the moment, it's not in one of the more established or desirable parts of DC. It may feel a little rough around the edges and doesn't reflect the typical DC experience visitors might expect. Having a car is highly recommended, as public transportation in the area may not be the safest option. Affordable option for a 3 night stay.
We loved staying here. It was very convenient for our travels. George is so nice and interesting. His breakfast was tasty and well prepared. Dave is also an interesting man with some great info. Very clean spacious room.
My husband and I stayed at Malolo B&B. We had a wonderful time in August spending over a week there - every morning we woke up with the delicious smell coming from the kitchen. Chef George is amazing the food is delicious well prepared and presented. Great variety of choices from hot to cold breakfast. George even made fresh waffles for my husband up his request, we had great and smart conversations with them. David is an amazing person with a beautiful heart and great personality a true sincere soul. The rooms are clean and well kept, I told George we don't need room cleaning service every day but he insisted and fixed our room anyway. During the pandemic they reduced the availability of the rooms. They are now just using the second floor. PS: I know I'm late in my review sorry guys. But you know we're moving soon we will see you again!
