Last verified: October 2026. Ibiza has one hotel that calls itself gay, and it is in Sant Antoni, twenty kilometres from the gay bars. Everything else is a question of geography and honesty: the bars are a single lane, Calle de la Virgen, in the old port quarter of Ibiza Town; the beach where gay men go in town is Figueretas, a fifteen-minute walk south; the real gay beach is the nude south end of Es Cavallet in the salt-flats park, ten kilometres away, and its bar, Chiringay, was sealed by the environment agency in March 2026 and closed for good in June after 45 summers. There is no men-only hotel, no clothing-optional pool and no gay club any more (the cave disco Anfora no longer opens), and yet the island works for a gay week better than most: adults-only hotels on every side of the town, La Troya back on Mondays, Glitterbox on Fridays, Pride in the second week of June, and 04:00 bars twelve months a year. This guide gives real minutes from Calle de la Virgen, what each hotel actually is and when it is open, the tourist tax, the new Alsa buses and the 2026 taxi tariff, and where PEP is at four in the morning.

Where to sleep, in real minutes

Minutes are measured from the bars of Calle de la Virgen (Carrer de la Mare de Déu) in Sa Penya, where Bar JJ, Sunrise, Dado, Mad Bar and Nini line one pedestrian lane and Soap at Dôme and MonaLisa sit round the corner on Alfons XII with Lola's club; 80 metres a minute with corners counted, the same figure as the "walk" line on every hotel card here.

    • Sa Penya, La Marina and Dalt Vila (Mirador 2 min, Torre del Canónigo 4, Montesol 5, Standard 5, Hostal Parque 6): the car-free port quarter and the walled town above it. Cobbles, stairs, no parking at all, bars until 04:00 under your window in season. The UNESCO walls are the morning walk.
    • Figueretas (Los Molinos 15 min, Ebeso 16, Cenit 17, Play 18, Figueretes Hotel 22, Ibiza Playa 23, MiM Es Vivé 28): the town beach to the south, where gay residents and visitors have swum since the 1970s with no sign to say so; the promenade is where the police fine street drinking (€1,500 in 2025). Deep Club 61, the men's club, is in its side streets. Flat walk back along the ring road or the seafront, 15–20 minutes.
    • The marina and Talamanca (Hotel Pacha 9 min, Sir Joan 16, Nobu 25, Destino Five, OD Talamanca): across the harbour mouth from the old town; Lady D at the port end of Calle de la Virgen is the first bar you reach. Taxis from the marina rank take five minutes.
    • Playa d'en Bossa (Twiins 36 min, Vibra Algarb 49, Migjorn 54, Ushuaïa 65): three kilometres of beach hotels; nobody walks it after dark. The AERO5 bus from the airport serves it directly; the L14 and the night D2 run to town.
    • Es Cavallet: 1.1 km of official nudist beach inside the Ses Salines natural park, gay at the south end, dunes protected (boardwalks only, no cruising tolerated by the park wardens); the small free car park at the north end fills by 11:00, after which it is the paid Ses Salines car park and a 20-minute walk through the pines, or the Salines bus from town and a 1.6 km walk. Chiringay is closed; El Chiringuito at the north end is the only bar left. Taxi from town about €17–21.
    • Sant Antoni and Cala de Bou (Purple Hotel, Axel Beach, Pikes, Paradiso Art Hotel): the west side, 20 kilometres and 25 minutes by car or the AERO1/L3 bus; sunset strip, stag parties, the "excess tourism" decree on the West End, and the island's gay hotel.
    • Santa Eulària (W Ibiza): the quiet east-coast town 15 km away; the W ran its own Pride weekend in 2026.

    Who changed

    • Chiringay, the gay beach bar at the south end of Es Cavallet since about 1981, was sealed on 24 March 2026 for unlicensed building works inside the natural park and announced its definitive closure on 15 June 2026. The gay end of the beach has no bar; bring water.
    • Anfora, the cave club under the Dalt Vila walls and for decades the island's only exclusively gay disco, no longer opens. Lola's on Alfons XII (Thursday to Saturday in winter) is what remains of a gay club.
    • La Troya is alive: Mondays at Chinois (Ibiza Gran Hotel, Marina Botafoch), 25 May to 5 October 2026, dinner then club, hosted by Baby Marcelo. Glitterbox moved from Hï to the Amnesia Terrace for Amnesia's 50th season, Fridays 15 May to 9 October 2026. Children of the 80s at the Hard Rock ended in September 2025, and the Hard Rock itself reopened in June 2026 as BLESS Ibiza The Site.
    • Es Vivé is MiM Ibiza; Destino Pacha is Destino Five; Privilege (Ku) reopened as [UNVRS] in 2025; the Ibiza Corso hotel is closed for a €40 million rebuild.
    • The buses changed hands on 1 April 2026: Alsa runs the island, the airport lines are called AERO 1–5 and fares are cheaper by card than cash.
    • Ibiza Pride 2026 (6–13 June, 12th edition) marched on Saturday 13 June from the Es Pratet sports centre along Avenida Ignasi Wallis to the port, with a free stage at the foot of Dalt Vila; it draws hundreds, not the tens of thousands some sites print. The domain is now ibizapride.es.

Rules, fees and bringing someone back

    • Second guests: Spain's Real Decreto 933/2021 has every hotel and apartment register every guest's identity with the police within 24 hours, so reception will ask your visitor for his DNI or passport and may charge for a third person. Book for two if there is any chance of company. Nobody publishes a visitor policy.
    • Tourist tax: the Balearic sustainable-tourism tax, per person per night plus 10% VAT: €4 at five-stars and superior four-stars, €3 at four-stars, €2 at one-to-three-stars and holiday apartments, €1 at hostals, from 1 May to 31 October; 75% less from November to April; half price from the ninth night; under-16s free. The proposed summer increase was never passed and the government dropped it in February 2026. Hotel VAT of 10% is inside the room price.
    • Fines that catch visitors: drinking in the street in Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni, up to €1,500 and enforced hard on the Figueretas promenade; shirtless or in swimwear away from the beach, €300; smoking or vaping on signed beaches and terraces, €100 (warning first). The Sant Antoni West End "excess tourism" decree (shops may not sell alcohol 21:30–08:00, no happy hours) runs to the end of 2027.
    • Nudity: legal at Es Cavallet and Aigües Blanques, the two official nudist beaches, and nowhere else; the Cavallet dunes are protected habitat where walking off the boardwalks is itself an offence.
    • Cars: from 1 June to 30 September the island caps visitors' vehicles (14,000 rental cars plus about 3,500 tourist cars a day in 2026, fewer again in 2027); renting on the island needs no permit, bringing your own car on the ferry needs prior authorisation; sleeping in a camper outside the five campsites risks up to €30,000. The old town is pedestrian and parking near it is private and dear.
    • Health cover: EU and UK visitors use the EHIC or GHIC at the public Can Misses hospital; private clinics and hotel-called doctors bill you.

    Three picks per budget

Getting in late and getting around

    • Airport: IBZ is 7 km from town. Since April 2026 the buses are Alsa: AERO 3 to the port and centre, AERO 5 to Playa d'en Bossa and Figueretas, AERO 1 to Sant Antoni, about every 30 minutes, €3.50 by card or €4.90 cash (€4 / €5.60 to Sant Antoni). Taxis are metered: with the tariff approved in 2026 (flag €4.30, €1.32 a kilometre by day, €1.60 at night and weekends, airport supplement €2.15) the town is €20–25, Playa d'en Bossa €14–17, Sant Antoni €27–32; queues of 45–90 minutes at 03:00 in summer. Uber works since 2023 but books the same taxis plus a handful of premium cars, and in July 2026 it quoted €122–180 for a €30 taxi ride; the dispatch number is +34 971 33 33 33.
    • Buses: €1.70–2.60 by card on the daytime lines (Sant Antoni, Santa Eulària, Playa d'en Bossa, Ses Salines in summer); the Discobus night lines D1–D4 run late May to the end of September (D1 Sant Antoni–Amnesia–Pacha–port, D2 Bossa–town–Pacha, D3 Sant Antoni–Bossa, D4 Santa Eulària), €2–4, roughly midnight to 06:00. Nothing runs to Es Cavallet at night.
    • Ferries: Dénia is the fast crossing (2h15, from about €16 on foot, daytime only); Barcelona and Valencia are overnight (8–9 hours). Formentera boats leave the port every half hour, 30 minutes across, €29–44 one way, last return around midnight in summer and 18:00–20:00 in winter; Ses Illetes is the day trip, and Formentera's beaches are nude at the ends.
    • Cruise days: two ships at a time is the rule from 2026 and 3,000 passengers an hour the cap; the old town is a crowd from 11:30 to 17:00 on those days.
    • At night: Calle de la Virgen is lit and policed until it empties; pickpockets work it in July and August. The walk to Figueretas is 15 minutes on lit streets; Playa d'en Bossa is a bus or a taxi. Deaths from balcony falls and adulterated drugs made the news in 2025, mostly in Sant Antoni and Playa d'en Bossa hotels; the paramedics' union reported 90-minute ambulance waits on summer nights.

    Health

    • PEP within 72 hours: the public Hospital Can Misses (Carrer de la Corona, 24-hour emergency room, 2 km from the port) is the only place on the island; say "profilaxis postexposición VIH" and give the time of exposure. Waits ran to 12 hours in August 2026. Private 24-hour alternatives for everything else: the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario on Via Romana and the Clínica Vila Parc opposite Can Misses.
    • PrEP and testing: PrEP is free in the Balearics through Can Misses's HIV unit but needs a Spanish health card, so bring your own supply. ALAS, the Balearic HIV association, has its Ibiza office at Carrer de Madrid 52 (WhatsApp +34 620 119 972) for rapid HIV and syphilis tests and chemsex support; Farmàcia Torres-Marí on Avenida Isidor Macabich does an anonymous rapid test for €5. Ibiza and Formentera have the highest HIV incidence in the Balearics, with 38 new diagnoses in 2025.
    • Pharmacies: no permanent 24-hour pharmacy in town; a rota pharmacy is open each night (Farmacia Mateo-Llavador in Es Pratet often), listed on every pharmacy door or by dialling 061.
    • Heat and sea: July 2026 was the hottest in the Balearics since records began, with 40°C at Sant Antoni and a record warm night at the airport; the island's water comes from desalination; sea urchins on the rocks at the Cavallet end and at Figueretas.

Ibiza in a paragraph

Gay Ibiza started in the clandestine 1960s under Franco, took over Calle de la Virgen in the 1970s and Es Cavallet in the 1980s, had its bar (Angelo's, open since 1969, and JJ, which claims to be the oldest) and its club (Anfora, Ku, La Troya at Amnesia, Space), and has spent the last decade watching the club island turn into a billionaire island while the gay lane stayed exactly where it was. Pride has marched since 2015; the first homophobic assault in years on Formentera in May 2026 brought the whole political class to the microphone within a day. Do the things everyone does: the walls of Dalt Vila at sunset, bullit de peix at Es Torrent or Cala Carbó (book), hierbas after dinner, the Sunday drums at Benirràs, Café del Mar in Sant Antoni, a day on Formentera, Es Vedrà from the cliff, La Troya on a Monday, and the last drink at JJ with the balcony open over the lane.
