Last verified: October 2026. Ogunquit has no men-only or clothing-optional hotel. We could not verify that any existed in 2026. What the town has instead is a handful of small gay-owned or gay-hosted B&Bs, led by Dragonfly Guest House on Shore Road. Around them sit a few former gay institutions that are now run as mainstream group properties, and a long strip of family motels and oceanfront resorts where gay couples are welcome but rarely the majority. Moon Over Maine, long the classic gay B&B, now trades as part of a local inn group (and also as "Moon 1839"). The Admiral's Inn, once billed as the biggest gay resort in the country, now markets itself to families as well as couples. The nightlife fits into roughly 300 metres around Ogunquit Square. That makes the hotel choice mostly a question of whether you want to walk home from MaineStreet at 1 am, walk to the gay end of the beach at noon, or wake up to the sea. This guide covers all three, along with what the 9% lodging tax and summer minimum stays will add, and how to book for Pride (1–6 June 2027), the bear weekend and the holiday weekends.
Pick by trip style
| Stay style | Hotels | Walk to Ogunquit Square (MaineStreet, Front Porch) | Walk to the gay beach (footbridge end) | Who it suits, and the watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gay-owned B&Bs | Dragonfly Guest House, Gazebo Inn Ogunquit | Dragonfly: not measured, well south on Shore Road; Gazebo: 22–24 min | Dragonfly: trolley or taxi; Gazebo: 12–14 min via Ocean Street | Couples who want breakfast with the hosts and a gay table. The catch is the walk: neither is on the square. |
| Ex-gay institutions, now group-run | Moon Over Maine, The Admiral's Inn | Moon: just off the square (not measured); Admiral's: 8–10 min | Moon: about 20 min; Admiral's: 27–30 min | Repeat visitors who know the history. Expect a mixed crowd, and at the Admiral's, children by the family pool. |
| On the square | The Trident Inn, Nellie Littlefield Inn & Spa, Abalonia Inn, Scotch Hill Inn | Trident: 1–2 min; Abalonia: 3–4 min; Nellie and Scotch Hill: a few minutes (not measured) | 15–22 min | Bar-goers who never want to move the car. Rooms facing Main Street hear the 1 am crowd and Route 1 traffic. |
| Ocean views, Marginal Way end | The Sparhawk, Seacastles, Anchorage by the Sea | 6–8 min (Sparhawk, Seacastles); 8–10 min (Anchorage) | 19–25 min | Splurge couples and anyone who wants the cliff path outside the door. These are big mainstream resorts. |
| On the sand | Norseman Resort | 9–11 min | 12–14 min along the beach | Beach days. Busy with families in July and August, and the car park outside fills by mid-morning. |
| Route 1 north, cottages and motels | Sea View Motel, The Dunes on the Waterfront | Sea View: 12–14 min; Dunes: further (not measured) | Sea View: 11–13 min via Ocean Street | Closest base for the footbridge end. The walk back along Route 1 after midnight is dark. |
| Budget, out of town | Bourne's Ocean Acres, Ogunquit Hotel & Suites | 28–31 min; 34–37 min | 16–18 min; 21–24 min | Price-driven trips with a car. You will need a taxi or the evening shuttle cart for the bars. |
Where to sleep, in real minutes
The gay village is small enough to describe in one sentence. It runs from The Front Porch at 9 Shore Road, past MaineStreet at 195 Main Street and The Old Village Inn at 30 Main Street, to Five-O Shore Road at number 50. All of it sits within about 3 minutes' walk of Ogunquit Square, where Main Street (US Route 1), Shore Road and Beach Street meet. MaineStreet is the dance bar and drag stage, and its listed hours run to 1 am every night of the week. The Front Porch is the piano bar, and The Old Village Inn and Five-O are where the dinner crowd starts. There is no gay sauna. The Sailaway Spa at the Admiral's Inn is a mainstream hotel spa.
The second anchor is the beach. Beach Street runs east from the square to the main entrance of Ogunquit Beach, about 9–11 minutes on foot. The gay section is another 12 minutes or so north along the sand, towards the footbridge over the Ogunquit River. From the motels on Route 1 north of the village you can reach that end more directly by Ocean Street and the footbridge. So the town splits three ways. Sleep on the square for nightlife, north on Route 1 for the gay beach, or on Shore Road for the sea and the Marginal Way.

The square and the first blocks of Main Street
The Trident Inn, at 14 Village Square Lane, is the closest bed to the bars in our listings: about 1–2 minutes to The Front Porch and MaineStreet. It is the former Two Village Square Inn, renamed, and has 17 rooms on the slope above the square. That property sat in gay guides for years. Whether the current owners are gay is unverified, but it has a perfect 5.0 from about 150 Google reviews and is the obvious choice if your evening ends at MaineStreet. Abalonia Inn at 268 Main Street is 3–4 minutes from the scene centre, and older gay guides list it too. Scotch Hill Inn at 287 Main Street is a few doors further north, so allow about 5 minutes (not measured). Nellie Littlefield Inn & Spa at 27 Shore Road is a couple of minutes from The Front Porch by street numbers, though we have not measured it.
Noise is the trade-off. In July and August, Route 1 traffic crawls through the square until late, and MaineStreet empties around 1 am. Ask for a room at the back. At 3 am the square is quiet and well lit, and it is about as safe as small-town America gets.
Shore Road and the Marginal Way
Shore Road heads south-east from the square towards Perkins Cove. The big oceanfront resorts are at numbers 85 to 125, where the Marginal Way cliff path begins. The Sparhawk (85 Shore Road) and Seacastles (104 Shore Road) are 6–8 minutes from the scene centre. Anchorage by the Sea (125 Shore Road) is 8–10 minutes away. All three are mainstream, so the gay life happens back on the square. The walk home is short, mostly level and quiet. The gay beach is a 19–25 minute walk, so most guests drive or take the trolley in season.
Dragonfly Guest House sits much further along, at 254 Shore Road, between the village and Perkins Cove. We have not measured the walk. It is clearly longer than from the 100-block resorts, and Shore Road gets darker the further you go from the square. Coming back from MaineStreet at 1 am, many people take the shuttle cart or a taxi rather than walk.

Route 1 south: the Admiral's Inn
The Admiral's Inn at 95 Main Street is 8–10 minutes south of the scene centre, towards the Ogunquit Playhouse. Its own listing says it is 400 yards from town. It is a resort-style compound with two pools (one adults-only), hot tubs, a dry sauna, a gym and a poolside bar. It suits theatre trips and anyone who wants a pool. The walk to the bars follows Route 1 and is lit near the village.
Route 1 north: the footbridge side
Sea View Motel at 417 Main Street is 12–14 minutes from the bars. It is also the closest property in our listings to the gay end of the beach, at 11–13 minutes via Ocean Street. The Dunes on the Waterfront at 518 Main Street has 21 renovated cottages on the river, with a seasonal pool and kayaks. It sits between the Sea View and the Gazebo, so the bars are roughly a 15–20 minute walk (not measured). Gazebo Inn Ogunquit at 571 Main Street is 22–24 minutes from the bars but only 12–14 minutes from the footbridge end. Gay guides describe it as having "nice gay hosts", and its October 2026 reviews are just as warm. North of the Sea View, Route 1 is a fast road with patchy lighting. Walk it in daylight and take a car after midnight.

Out of town
Bourne's Ocean Acres (676 Main Street, 28–31 minutes) and Ogunquit Hotel & Suites (719 Main Street, 34–37 minutes) are motel-style bases for drivers. They make sense on a budget or when everything closer is full on a holiday weekend. Don't book them if your plan is several nights at MaineStreet.
Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional
Men-only and clothing-optional: none, as far as we could verify in October 2026. Ogunquit is a mixed town: gay men, lesbians and straight families share the same beach and the same inns. Ogunquit Beach is a public town beach and nudity is not allowed anywhere on it, including the gay end.
Gay-owned in 2026:
- Dragonfly Guest House is listed by gay travel directories as a gay-owned B&B run by David and Charles. It has six units, all with private bathrooms and air conditioning, and a cooked breakfast (Charles cooks). It advertises as open all year. Reviews are excellent, with a 5.0 Google rating from about 115 reviews. It is open to everyone, not just gay guests.
- Gazebo Inn Ogunquit has around ten rooms, some with fireplaces and some pet-friendly. Gay guides have long described its hosts as gay. Current ownership was not re-verified for 2026, so confirm before booking if it matters to you.
- Moon Over Maine at 22 Berwick Road was for decades the gay B&B in Ogunquit. It now presents itself as "Moon 1839", part of the OGT Inns Village Collection, alongside High Rock Guest Studios. It still has a handful of rooms, a hot tub and breakfast baskets, and a 4.9 rating. Whether the group is gay-owned is unverified. OGT Inns did take group bookings for the 2026 bear weekend, which says something about who it courts.
- The Admiral's Inn was once described as the largest gay resort in the US. It now sells itself as a resort "for couples, families, and groups", with a family pool next to the adults-only one. Recent gay reviewers report a mostly straight crowd, with gay memorabilia in the lobby and no rainbow flag outside. It is open April to December.
- The Trident Inn is the former Two Village Square Inn, a name gay visitors will remember. It is gay-friendly, but current ownership is unverified.
- Lodging tax: Maine charges 9% on hotel, motel, B&B and short-term rental stays. Rates quoted on inn websites usually exclude it. We found no confirmed extra Ogunquit municipal lodging tax as of October 2026. Some coastal towns have discussed local add-ons, so check your folio.
- Visitors and joiners: American hotels do not charge joiner fees or ask for ID from overnight guests the way some European and Asian hotels do. Small B&Bs are another matter. They set occupancy limits per room and may ask who is staying, partly because breakfast is counted per head. If two of you are sleeping there, book for 2 guests from the start.
- Minimum stays: expect 2-night minimums on summer weekends and 3 nights over Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day at most B&Bs and many motels. Pride and the bear weekend often carry the same rule. This is common practice in the town; check each property.
- Deposits and cancellation: small inns often take a deposit at booking, and peak-season cancellation windows can be 14–30 days, sometimes non-refundable. Read the policy before paying, not after.
- Season: many properties close or cut back from November to April. The Admiral's lists April to December. Dragonfly and Moon Over Maine advertise as open all year, but confirm winter breakfast and services.
- Prices: summer weekend rates rise sharply. Comparison sites have shown the Dunes cottages at about US$750 a night in peak season. Shoulder months (May, early June, September, October) cost far less. We have not verified current rack rates for the B&Bs, so get a quote directly.
- Pets: several inns (Gazebo, Admiral's) are dog-friendly, usually with a fee. Ask before you arrive with one.
- From the airport: Portland International Jetport is about 45 minutes' drive north, and Boston Logan about 1 hour 15 minutes south (these are the Admiral's Inn's own figures). There is no direct public bus into the village. Most people rent a car, or pre-book a car service. Amtrak's Downeaster from Boston stops in Wells, a short taxi ride north; check current timetables.
- Trolley: the Ogunquit Trolley runs a seasonal loop from roughly June. It stops in the rain and has historically finished in the early evening, so it is a beach and Perkins Cove service, not a bar service. 2026 schedules were posted late, so expect the same for 2027.
- Evening shuttle: the Ogunquit Shuttle Cart runs from 4 pm to midnight, seven days a week, May to October. After midnight you need a taxi.
- Taxis and apps: local operators include Tide Rides (call or text 207-413-4836). Uber and Lyft cover the area, but late-night availability is thin, especially out of season. Pre-book your ride home on Saturday nights and holiday weekends.
- Walking: the square, the first 400 metres of Main Street and Shore Road out to the resorts are fine on foot at any hour. Route 1 north of the Sea View and south of the Playhouse, and Shore Road beyond the 100s, are dark, with fast cars. Wear something light-coloured or take a car.
- Legal position: same-sex relationships and marriage are legal across the US. Maine has some of the country's stronger state protections, and Ogunquit is one of the most gay-comfortable small towns in New England. EqualityMaine in Portland is the statewide advocacy group.
- PEP and PrEP: for PEP within 72 hours of exposure, the nearest emergency department is York Hospital in York, about 15 minutes south by car. Maine law allows pharmacists to dispense HIV prevention medication, but not every pharmacy stocks PEP, so phone ahead. For PrEP and sexual health testing, Portland (about 45 minutes) has the main clinics, including Planned Parenthood's Portland health centre and the Frannie Peabody Center for HIV services. Check addresses and hours directly.
- App dates: we found no reported 2025–2026 incidents targeting gay visitors in Ogunquit. The usual rule still applies: meet in a bar first, tell the front desk or a friend who is coming, and lock passports and cash in the room safe.
- Beach behaviour: the footbridge end is a social gay beach, not a nude or cruising beach in any legal sense. Public indecency laws apply on the sand and in the dunes, and the dunes themselves are protected habitat.
- Cannabis: adult-use cannabis is legal in Maine for those 21 and over. Using it in public, on the beach or in a non-smoking room is not. Inns charge cleaning fees for any smoke, tobacco or cannabis.
- Other drugs: anything beyond cannabis is a criminal matter under state and federal law. Small inns will end a stay and charge for damage if they find evidence of drug use in a room.
- Trans travellers: Maine law includes gender identity in its non-discrimination protections. Federal-level policy on ID and passports has been in flux, so travel with documents that match your booking name.
Changed hands or changed tone:
Not in our listings, worth knowing: Ogunquit Beach Inn (67 School Street) has appeared in gay guides as a gay B&B in the village. The Betty Doon Motor Hotel (13 Beach Street) is a no-frills motel long popular with gay visitors on a budget. High Rock Guest Studios is the OGT Inns sister property. We could not confirm 2026 operating status or ownership for the first two, so check directly.
The Dunes on the Waterfront is sometimes grouped with the gay inns. It is in fact run by a mainstream New England inn-and-resort group. It welcomes gay guests but is not a gay business.

Booking rules that bite
The gay calendar and where to book for it

Christmas by the Sea (December 2026)
This is the Chamber of Commerce's holiday weekend, held, by its own rule, on the second weekend after the Saturday following Thanksgiving. MaineStreet usually runs a holiday party and a "Bear T Dance" alongside it. The organiser has not been checked for exact 2026 dates, so confirm on the Chamber's calendar. Book the square (Trident, Moon Over Maine) or an all-season B&B like Dragonfly, because much of Route 1 will be closed.
Memorial Day weekend (28–31 May 2027)
Memorial Day is Monday 31 May 2027, and the weekend is the unofficial start of the gay season, with MaineStreet programming on all three nights. Expect 3-night minimums and book by March.

Ogunquit Pride (1–6 June 2027)
The Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce runs Pride and has published the 7th annual edition for 1–6 June 2027. The core weekend falls on 4–6 June, and the "Picnic in the Park" at Dorthea Grant Common is on Saturday 5 June. The week opens with a flag raising in Veterans Park, a community barbecue and a Pride party. The 2026 edition ran 5–7 June. There are no official host hotels. Everything happens around the square and Grant Common, so the Trident, Abalonia, Nellie Littlefield and Moon Over Maine are the walk-everywhere picks. Book by February or March for the Friday and Saturday nights. See Ogunquit Pride for the organiser. A week later, BonAire (11–13 June 2027) celebrates the town's arts history, so mid-June stays busy.
Fourth of July and high summer
July and August are full every weekend. Sunday tea dances at MaineStreet run through spring and summer. If you only have a weekend, the square sells out first. For midweek, the Shore Road resorts are better value.

Ogunquit Beach Bear Weekend (2027 dates not announced)
This started in 2025, and the second edition ran 26–30 August 2026. It had beach meetups, pool parties, a Bear & Boys Glow Ball, a tea dance and a Bear Mart, with most parties at MaineStreet. As of October 2026 we could not find 2027 dates published by the organisers (ogunquitbears.com). If it follows the pattern, it will be the last week of August. In 2026, OGT Inns (Moon Over Maine, High Rock) held a group block, so watch that group when dates appear.
Labor Day weekend (3–6 September 2027)
This is the traditional end-of-season party weekend. MaineStreet ran four nights of Dueling Drag Divas shows over Labor Day 2026. Mr Gay Ogunquit has historically been part of the weekend, but no 2027 edition has been announced. Expect the same minimums as Memorial Day.

OgunquitFest (late October 2027)
The Chamber's autumn festival, with the Halloween fun, falls on the second weekend after Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend. The 2026 edition has just passed, and 2027 dates are not yet published. Many inns stay open specifically for it.
Getting back at 3 am
The honest version: nobody in Ogunquit needs to get back at 3 am, because MaineStreet's listed closing time is 1 am. After that, you are walking.

Health, safety and the law
Three picks

Budget: Sea View Motel
This is a plain motel, but in our listings it is the nearest property to the gay end of the beach (11–13 minutes via Ocean Street), and it is still only 12–14 minutes from MaineStreet. If your days are on the sand and your nights at the bar, that balance is hard to beat at motel prices. The out-of-town motels on Route 1 are cheaper still, but you will pay the difference in taxis.
Mid-range: Dragonfly Guest House
It is the one place we can say is gay-owned in 2026, with six rooms, hosts who cook breakfast, and a 5.0 rating from more than 100 reviews. The walk to the bars is longer than from the square. If you want to be on the square instead, The Trident Inn is 1–2 minutes from MaineStreet.

Splurge: The Sparhawk
The rooms look straight over the water at Ogunquit Beach, the Marginal Way starts at the door, and the walk home from the piano bar is 6–8 minutes on lit pavement. It is a mainstream resort and the crowd reflects that. You stay there for the view and the walk.
Frequently asked

Is there a men-only or clothing-optional hotel in Ogunquit?
No. As of October 2026 we could not verify any men-only or clothing-optional property in town. The gay-owned options are small mixed B&Bs, and Dragonfly Guest House is the clearest example.
Is Moon Over Maine still a gay B&B?
It is still open and still popular with gay couples. It now operates as part of the OGT Inns Village Collection, also under the name "Moon 1839". Current gay ownership is unverified.

Which hotel is closest to MaineStreet and the gay bars?
In our listings it is The Trident Inn on Village Square Lane, 1–2 minutes from MaineStreet and The Front Porch. Abalonia Inn on Main Street is 3–4 minutes away.
Is there a gay beach in Ogunquit?
Yes. It is the north end of Ogunquit Beach, near the footbridge over the Ogunquit River. Walk about 12 minutes north from the Beach Street entrance, or come in via Ocean Street from Route 1. Nudity is not permitted.

What is the hotel tax in Ogunquit?
Maine's lodging tax is 9%, and it is usually added on top of quoted rates. We found no confirmed extra town tax as of October 2026.
Can I bring a guest back to my room?
Larger American hotels have no joiner fees or ID registration. Small B&Bs set occupancy limits per room, so if two people are sleeping there, book for 2 guests from the start.

When is Ogunquit Pride 2027?
The Chamber of Commerce lists 1–6 June 2027, with the main weekend on 4–6 June and the Picnic in the Park on Saturday 5 June. Book rooms on or near the square by early spring.
