Clube Naval

The Clube Naval is a colonial-era institution on Maputo's Marginal waterfront — founded as a sailing and social club in the Portuguese period and now operating as one of the city's most popular leisure venues for the professional and diplomatic community. The beach bar and restaurant overlook Maputo Bay; the outdoor pool is the main draw on hot afternoons. The crowd is mixed and international — the diplomatic community in Sommerschield makes regular use of the club, which creates a social environment that is considerably more open than the city average. The Clube Naval is not a gay venue but is consistently cited by Maputo's LGBTQ+ community as one of the most comfortable open-air social spaces in the city. Membership is available; day passes for non-members are possible. The grilled seafood is excellent.
