The Lyall Hotel
Visitors consistently praise the Lyall Hotel for its exceptional service, tranquil atmosphere, and beautifully decorated, spacious rooms, with many highlighting the friendly and helpful staff. However, some guests found the bedrooms to be a bit small for a five-star rating, though they still acknowledged the comfort of the beds.

The stay was fantastic! The service was impeccable, the room was spacious and quiet, and the bed was so comfortable I wanted to stay in bed forever. The location is superb, with easy access to restaurants, shops, and entertainment nearby. I will definitely come back!
While the hotel itself appeared entirely deserving of its five-star designation, the experience became somewhat less luxurious upon discovering that over $800 secures approximately two hours of occupancy and an escorted departure. Had the policy of bond payments being required to come from myself as opposed to my good friend who offered to cover it in person, due to my UK Banking issues from travelling internationally. Had this policy Been clearly communicated prior to them happily accepting payment, the situation could have been resolved discreetly, professionally, and without the unnecessary embarrassment or additional expense of sourcing alternate accommodation. Very disappointing and quite frankly deplorable and reprehensible service I received from Management, namely Olivia. To her credit, vocally admitted and acknowledged the downfall in their usual Five star Standards. Regarding the Service I received. No gesture of Of Goodwill was offered To myself over two weeks on. Which therefore diminishes this acknowledgement. I am quite certain that guests perceived to be sufficiently financially ‘desirable’ are afforded the full five-star experience with considerably greater warmth and flexibility. Regrettably, I can only conclude that aspects of the treatment I received were influenced less by policy itself, and more by assumptions and stigma surrounding my circumstances at the time.
We have been staying at the Lyall for years and welcomed. Today we were asked to check out (of a suite!) as were are a non conventional relationship and there are 3 of us staying in the room. Never in 2 years with regular stays each year have we ever had an issue. We had previously told them, and they laughed and said it was fine so this time we did not feel the need to check as they are aware even of the specific room we always get. Instead of preparing and adding notes to the booking they surprised us at 4am complaining they just noticed there were 3 people asking us to leave. We even offered to pay for another room, and was told “the owner just does not want 3 people in the room” Also, to the Lyall team who backtracked and tried to blame fire regs - anything above 10sqm allows 3 The Ritz has welcomed us with open arms. Room upgrade, stunning views. Could not ask for more
We absolutely loved our stay at The Lyall Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, welcoming, and attentive. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and felt so luxurious, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. The location was also amazing, with so many lovely cafes, restaurants, and shops nearby. Every detail of our stay felt thoughtful and high quality, and it honestly made our Melbourne trip even more special. We enjoyed our stay so much that we’re already planning to come back again soon. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful and memorable stay!
Everything was perfect. The staff is impeccable. Friendly and helpful, anticipating all needs. The room and the bed were super comfortable and the shower and amenities are top notch. Location ideal. I will absolutely return. Thank you to all.
Quite possibly the most underrated boutique hotel in Melbourne. Seamless service in a superb location, run by some of the most professional people in hospitality. From the charming owner Mazen who pays meticulous attention to every detail, to Harry the manager who graciously runs a very tight ship, to Sylvia, Olivia, Lily (TLC), Yu and the rest of the team plus Orlando, the gifted Cuban artiste who works tirelessly in the background. Melbourne's classiest crew. Please support world class Australian businesses like this.
