Daikoku (だいこく)

Daikoku is an Asian-themed gay bar in the Kiyamachi district of central Kyoto, part of the small cluster of counter bars that make up the city's gay nightlife. It typically opens in the evening (around 19:00 until late) and closes on Mondays. The bar keeps the intimate, seated-counter format common to Kyoto's scene, where the host pours drinks and conversation flows among regulars and the occasional visitor. Friendly to travellers, though as with most Kyoto gay bars a basic word of Japanese and a low-key manner are appreciated.
