About this place Woman only Bar Rainbow

Rainbow is a women-only gay bar located in Kyoto's Nakagyo Ward, in the heart of the city. This venue provides a dedicated space for lesbian and queer women to socialize and connect in a welcoming environment. As a women-only establishment, it offers an inclusive atmosphere designed specifically with its community in mind. Kyoto's LGBTQ+ scene is smaller and more intimate than Japan's larger urban centers, making women-only venues like this particularly valuable for visitors and locals alike. You can expect a relaxed, community-focused vibe typical of women-oriented bars in Japan, where conversation and connection are central to the experience. The bar is conveniently situated on the second floor of a building in a central location, making it accessible for those exploring Kyoto's nightlife. Whether you're visiting Kyoto or based locally, this venue welcomes women looking for a safe, social space. It's worth noting that some LGBTQ+ venues in Japan may have specific house rules or dress codes, so arriving with an open mind and respectful attitude will help you make the most of your visit. Check ahead or arrive early if you're uncertain about any details, as smaller venues sometimes have varying hours or may host special events.

It had a calm atmosphere. The nearby "LOOK ME" has a younger clientele, and with karaoke, it's often a lively place, while "Rainbow" seems to have an older clientele (though still young). Rather than a place to drink heavily and look for a romantic encounter, it's a place to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and conversation with friends.

I was disappointed when people didn't accept my sexuality and instead said, "I hope you find a good man."

I came here with my girlfriend and had such a great time. It’s a small bar, but that’s honestly what makes it so special — really cozy, relaxed, and comfortable. Everyone was super welcoming and genuinely nice, which made the whole experience even better. Wishing you guys the best of luck! I came here with my girlfriend and had a really great time. It’s a small bar, but I think that’s its charm. It was a very cozy, relaxing space. The staff were also very warm and kind, which made the experience even better. Keep up the great work! Such a special little spot. This is a tiny lesbian bar with only seven seats, and it honestly made the night feel even more intimate and welcoming. The owner was also the bartender, and she was amazing—so friendly, kind, and full of good vibes. There were four local women there, and even though we didn't all speak the same language, we ended up chatting and laughing together using Google Translate.
