About This Event
Sapporo Rainbow Pride, run by the Sapporo Rainbow Pride executive committee, is Hokkaido's Pride weekend. It kicks off with a parade from Odori Park, winding its way through central Sapporo. You'll also find a "Rainbow Street" area, complete with stalls, a stage, and games.
Sapporo's been holding its parade since 1996, the second city in Japan to do so after Tokyo. The 2026 edition marked its 30th anniversary, taking place on 26 and 27 September. The parade itself happened on the 27th.
Kyodo reported around 800 people marched the 3 km route, many carrying signs that read "Yes to marriage equality". This issue is particularly relevant in Sapporo: in 2021, the Sapporo District Court ruled that the ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional, a first for Japan.
The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.

Parade Participation
Participants can join the parade by simply showing up on the day. However, due to safety and traffic regulations, the number of participants may be limited, so it's advisable to get a wristband at the reception on the day.
