About this place Die Mumu

Die Mumu is a gay bar on Schaafenstraße that’s a reliable spot for a good night out. It’s one of the best-known places in Cologne’s gay scene, and it pulls a younger, social crowd. You’ll hear pop and dance music, always carefully picked to keep the energy high. Bartenders here are friendly. They’ll take song requests if you ask. That makes it easy to feel like part of the place, whether you’re new to Cologne or a regular. The vibe is easygoing: drinks, conversation, and good music to dance to. Cologne has plenty of gay bars, but Die Mumu consistently gets high marks for its playlist; many people say it’s one of the best in the city. You can settle in for an evening here and expect good company, solid drinks, and music that makes you want to stick around. See their website for event details and hours: die-mumu.de.

I usually enjoy visiting this bar. It's a combination of a bar and a club. However, it's worth noting that neither the drinks nor the music are exceptional. Both aspects are perfectly acceptable, but nothing remarkable. The focus here is more on the social aspect: meeting people and celebrating together. Otherwise: What I like: - Charming decoration: The entire bar is decorated with great attention to detail for each occasion, according to the respective theme. - Friendly atmosphere: The bar has a relatively large number of regulars who are very welcoming and open to newcomers. - Mostly friendly staff: With only one exception, I've had exclusively positive experiences with the staff so far. What I didn't like: - Overcrowding on weekends: The number of guests on weekends is so high that access to the restrooms is difficult, and extra caution is required. - Door policy: I noticed that certain people are exempt from the minimum spend requirement. When questioned, a person who benefited from this arrangement revealed that they knew the person at the door personally. Further conversation showed that the person at the door had no knowledge of the individual's drinking habits. This constituted preferential treatment based on personal connections. This practice is not well-received by other guests and could be problematic under the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG), despite existing house rules. Similar behavior was also observed in the queue.
