About this place Ruhrpott

Ruhrpott is Cologne's mellow gay bar, great for a drink and a chat at any time of day, but no dancing.

You’ll find Ruhrpott on Balduinstraße, right in the middle of Cologne's gay quarter. It’s a bar that keeps things low-key: no dance floor, no banging music, just a relaxed vibe for talking to people.

Pop in during the day, and you can get homemade salads and cakes. It’s a good spot to refuel if you’re wandering around the neighborhood. Come evening, it turns into a proper cocktail bar—a place to sit back after a day of sightseeing or just to meet up with friends.

Cologne's gay scene is big and friendly, with plenty of places spread across the area. Ruhrpott stands out as one of the classier options, a bit more intimate than some of the others. If you're traveling alone and want to meet locals, or just want good conversation with a drink, this is a solid choice.

It’s surrounded by other gay-friendly spots, so you’re right where the action is. Check their website for exact opening times and whatever else they’re doing.

The security staff at the entrance were extremely unfriendly and incompetent. They completely ruined the atmosphere for the entire evening. Friendly customers should not be treated so rudely and disgruntled. They were unprofessional and unsuitable for such a wonderful, charming, and welcoming bar where one can celebrate in a lovely atmosphere. I wanted to say hello to a good friend and was turned away. The so-called "bouncer" is not a kind person, but a rude person who doesn't know how to handle any situation appropriately. These rowdy individuals at the door are dragging down this otherwise lovely, beautifully furnished, and well-equipped bar with its excellent waitstaff. In conclusion: For long-term success, professional staff must be present at the entrance.

Great shop. The Pinot Noir "Marxloher Armutstraube" from the Thyssenfeld allotment garden is especially recommended, but the dry white "Dorstfelder Durstlöscher" is also delicious.
