Cologne CSD (Christopher Street Day) is Germany's largest pride celebration and one of the biggest in Europe, drawing up to 1.5 million people to the Rhine city each July. The parade route winds through the medieval old town past the magnificent Cologne Cathedral — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — before ending in a massive festival ground along the riverbank.
The Cologne CSD has been running since 1979 and has grown to become a full-day spectacle: thousands of floats, community groups, and marching bands fill the streets from morning until evening, followed by an outdoor concert and the legendary afterparties in the gay-friendly Heumarkt and Rudolfplatz areas.
Cologne's central location in Germany, excellent rail connections, and the city's warm and welcoming culture make it a prime destination for LGBTQ+ visitors from across Europe. The city's Cathedral, rising beside the Rhine, provides a backdrop that no other pride event can match.
