Iceland Pride, or Hinsegin Dagar, takes over Reykjavik every August. It started small in 1999. Now it’s one of the world’s most impactful Pride festivals, especially considering the city’s size.
Iceland has a long history of supporting LGBTQ+ rights, often passing progressive laws early. Reykjavik itself has about 130,000 residents, but the Pride parade regularly draws over 100,000 people. That means a huge chunk of the country comes out. This shows deep national solidarity, creating a genuinely joyful, inclusive atmosphere. The turnout reflects Iceland’s continued role as a leader in LGBTQ+ equality, with a strong sense of community that lasts all week.

The main parade is the week’s focus. It’s a colorful, energetic walk through the city center, ending in an outdoor festival. Beyond the parade, the week fills with events. Expect parties, from small bar gatherings to big dance events that stretch into the bright Arctic nights.
