About this place Pennylane

Pennylane on Capel Street sits within the emerging gay village strip and has established a warm, neighbourhood-bar identity that complements the more established venues nearby. The bar is not as politically charged as Pantibar or as historically significant as The George, but it provides something equally valuable: a relaxed, well-run venue where the drinks are good, the music is considered, and the crowd is genuinely mixed without any particular effort. The cocktail programme has attracted a following beyond the immediate LGBTQ+ community, which reflects Capel Street's broader evolution as a destination for Dublin's creative and progressive population. Pennylane works well as a first-stop venue before the later evening energy of the strip ramps up, or as a mid-evening pause before the club bars take over.

My friend and I asked if it was possible to order a Cosmopolitan since that’s what I had been drinking at the other bars. The bartender said they weren’t making cocktails because he was busy. I asked if he could make an exception or recommend another vodka-based drink since I didn’t want to mix different types of alcohol. Instead of trying to help, the person who identified himself as the manager became rude, accused me of being disrespectful, and called security for no reason. He raised his voice, pointed his finger at me, and then put his hand on my shoulder and told me, “I’m not going to serve you.” No manager should ever put their hands on a customer. It was completely unprofessional and an unacceptable way to handle a simple request. My friend had already been served our drinks, but we chose to leave and spend our money elsewhere. The management’s behavior reflected very poor customer service and left a terrible impression.

Great bar..but needs to turn the music down a little. Very hard to have a conversation.

We stumbled across this place across the street from the pantibar, and we never heard of it during all of our search for gay bars in dublin. They have such a beautiful and clean environment, and the drinks are very very good. Definitely a place for a more chill experience, but so so fun and so inclusive with all the flags they have up. Would absolutely recommend this place to our fellow queers/ allies

What a great gay venue for Dublin. Absolutely buzzing atmosphere with a great mix of guys there. Felt totally relaxed safe.
