Great location. Very convenient to everything. Charming and functional rooms. French music in the background. Indoor and outdoor seating. Restaurant (Cherie) is e excellent. Highly recommend and we would come back here every time we return to Bergen.
I've stayed at many many fine hotels. Charmante was #1! It was "pinch me, is this real" level of incredible. And somehow the staff manage to be as incredible as the property itself. Folks, this hotel is worth traveling for even if you do nothing else in Bergen...
A drink on the street. The inside was incrediable , want to come back and eat.
A place of the heart. Unrivaled atmosphere. A dream. ❤️
We chose this place for its central location and character, and it absolutely delivered on both. The building and decor are fantastic — easily the most memorable part of the stay. Staff were polite and breakfast was fine, though not standout. Unfortunately, the experience unraveled due to noise and scent. Our room was directly above a pub open until 3am, and the “lively crowd” kept us up all night. We asked for a quieter room on day one and were told the hotel was full. We later learned a room did open up, but because we didn’t follow up again, we missed it. At 2am we had to request earplugs from reception just to cope. The second issue was the hotel’s signature fragrance. I’m scent-sensitive, and it was so strong in the halls I found it hard to breathe. As management told us, fragrance is in their “DNA” — and it lingers. The other issue was the climate control inside rooms. We couldn’t make it cool down. Also, no TV. And the light controls were on the side tables facing the bed, if you move by it, it lit up right on your face. Also, no phones in the rooms. Pros: Design, character, central location, polite staff Cons: No sleep due to pub noise, overwhelming fragrance, missed communication on room change Tip: If you book, specifically request a room away from the bar. Light sleepers or scent-sensitive guests should think twice. Note: we didn’t go to Bergen to drink all night and sleep all day. We were there to experience the beautiful city and the beautiful area. So we spent all day out and came to the hotel to rest for the next day excursions. As you may already assume, we were so tired after not sleeping all night, that our days were miserable. It was one of the worst experiences I have had in my travels.
I'm currently staying at the hotel for two nights. Everything, absolutely everything, was wonderful. The location is excellent, I think it's on the most beautiful street in the city. When you enter, you feel like you're in a royal ballroom. Everyone is calm, quiet, respectful, smiling, and helpful. The breakfast is amazing. There's an unlimited breakfast menu, served quickly and attentively in a 5-star manner. Each room is, I'm sure, a masterpiece. You can see it in the pictures. Returning to our room was a real pleasure, repeated multiple times every day. The hotel's own channel played French music 24/7 in the room, which was fantastic, allowing you to adjust the volume to your liking. The lights were easily adjustable with an electronic remote control next to the bed. The bathroom was spacious, and the shower flow was incredibly powerful, like a car wash! 😅 I've never seen such strong water in my life, it was amazing 👍🏻 You can easily adjust the room temperature to your liking. The bed is large and comfortable, and there are pillow options. Luggage transfer between hotels worked flawlessly. They didn't have a problem holding our suitcases at 12:00 on our departure day; we were able to leave them at the hotel until 16:00 and continue exploring. They absolutely did a fantastic job. It was an amazing experience.
