About this place Knapenstampen

Knapenstampen is Bergen's primary gay bar and the social anchor of the city's LGBTQ+ community — the venue that has been providing a reliable, welcoming space for gay men and women in Norway's second city for longer than any other dedicated establishment in the area. The bar takes its unusual name (it means 'pin cushion' in Norwegian) and operates with the specifically Norwegian character of a community bar that is unpretentious, direct, and genuinely welcoming without performing the welcome. The location on Vaskerelven — a street that runs through the centre of Bergen's nightlife area, a short walk from the Bryggen and the fish market — places it at the heart of the city's social life as well as its gay scene. The crowd is predominantly local — Bergen gay men and women, many of them regulars who have been coming for years — with a visiting contingent during Bergen Pride week and the summer tourist season when the city's international visitor numbers rise significantly. Knapenstampen runs DJ nights at weekends and occasional community events, but its primary character is that of a bar rather than a club: a place to have a drink, meet people, and be part of Bergen's gay community without the pressure of a nightclub environment.

Very little yarn. Mostly well made sweaters, limited selection of home goods, and other traditional items.

Lots of great yarn and patterns and other craft-related products. Knowledgeable staff. Located right in the heart of Bergen.

Incredibly poor customer service, the employees there shouldn't have a job that involves customer service at all. Incredibly disappointed. They don't have enough expertise either😬😬

Lots of nice things in the store. I've never used their bunad services, so I can't comment on that. I was quite surprised when I came in today looking for hand-knotted scarves, and had to wait several minutes for them to figure out what they were. Makes me doubt the knowledge of the employees.

I sent in my national costume to have it adjusted. I chose Husfliden, as I expect them to know Norwegian traditional garments. Unfortunately, the work was so bad that I ended up having to send it elsewhere to correct the fit that they had ruined. Disappointingly poor craftsmanship, and handling afterwards. The feedback was flatly rejected as they had done nothing wrong. Referred to my measurements which were no longer the same, but they do not affect the craftsmanship which was simply too bad to be at Husfliden. Not recommended.
