About this place Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Bergen

The Radisson Blu Royal is a large mainstream chain hotel at Dreggsallmenningen, directly behind the old Hanseatic wharf of Bryggen in central Bergen. It is listed here as gay-friendly; there is nothing specifically LGBTQ+ about it, but the location is about as central as Bergen gets. The fish market, the Fløibanen funicular station and most of the harbour sights are within a 5 to 10 minute walk, and the Bryggen tram stop is close by. With nearly 3,000 Google reviews at 4.2, it is a reliable, business-standard option. Expect Norwegian prices for rooms and anything bought in the hotel bar or restaurant.

Decent location, but nasty room. The room itself was dusty, the fridge had old hotdog buns in it from a previous guest, and the bathroom had hair all over in the bathtub, on the shower faucet, and wads of hair on the floor. When I went to wipe my hands with a hand towel, I had strands of hair on my hands. Absolutely disgusting. When we complained to staff, they said that they’d been having many issues with housekeeping (then fix it???). They said they could not change our rooms because it was past midnight and housekeeping was gone for the day. We returned the following afternoon to speak to the manager, but he/she wasn’t available at the moment. Since we were heading out to explore the city, we asked for an email address to reach the manager, but they said they couldn’t give it to us. Instead, we left a note with the front desk and never heard back. On the day of checkout, the lady at the front desk said “we were expecting you to come back to talk to us”. What? You want us to chase you down because you and your housekeeping can’t figure it out? Makes absolutely no sense. If you like cleanliness, do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE.
