Bedrooms are minimalistic with bare concrete walls and ceilings (which I didn't particularly like). Breakfast is outstanding. Staff were friendly. The location is perfect being set right in the heart of the City.
I chose this hotel because I genuinely fell in love with its architecture, design, and overall aesthetic. The building, the interior concept, and the spa are truly beautiful and clearly have a lot of potential. Unfortunately, I have to say that this was also the only part of the hotel experience that lived up to expectations. As a trained hotelier myself, I know what five-star service should feel like — and this stay was very disappointing. Considering that we paid over €1,000 for our stay, I expected a certain level of professionalism, attentiveness, and hospitality. Sadly, this was missing from the very beginning. Upon arrival, the reception team was unable to provide any proper explanation or guidance. I had to take the luggage trolley and bring my luggage to the room myself, ask my way around the hotel, and overall did not feel welcomed at all. There was no warm greeting, no assistance, and no sense of genuine hospitality. This impression continued throughout the entire stay. Whenever we returned from the city or passed through the reception area, nobody greeted us. The reception staff often seemed uninterested, unmotivated, or distracted — sometimes on their phones, eating, or simply looking bored. In a five-star hotel, guests expect a much higher level of professionalism, presence, and service. This is, after all, part of what you are paying for. The checkout experience was equally disappointing. The receptionist did not even ask how our stay had been. He also did not know how I could pay for the parking ticket. In the end, the housekeeping staff seemed more helpful and informed than the reception team, which says a lot. Although the hotel design and spa are amazing, there are many important details missing. The rooms offer very little storage space, and in the bathroom there was not even a proper place to hang a towel. Overall, it felt like the hotel is doing the bare minimum when it comes to guest comfort and service. I am genuinely frustrated by this stay. A beautiful design alone does not make a five-star hotel. Service, professionalism, attentiveness, and a sense of welcome are just as important — and unfortunately, this hotel failed on those points. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this hotel.
The hotel is well located close to the harbour and a variety of restaurants and tourist attractions. The staff are exceptional and always willing to help. It was a great stay for our family.
The receptionist's attitude was not very good. When we checked out at noon, we asked her where we could have lunch at the hotel. She pointed to the restaurant and said that any of the seats were fine. However, when we went to the restaurant, the staff told us that they were not open for lunch that day.
A true gem in the heart of Bergen. The atmosphere at Skostredet Hotel is elegant yet welcoming, the rooms beautifully designed, and the breakfast simply outstanding — one of the best we’ve had. The cuisine overall was exceptional, with great attention to quality and presentation. A perfect stay for anyone looking for comfort, style, and fantastic food in Bergen.
