About this place Basso Social - Oslo

Basso Social in Oslo is a welcoming restaurant that offers a fantastic dining experience, earning a strong 4.5/5 rating from visitors. The diverse and tasty dishes are a highlight, with many praising the skilled and attentive service. It's a place where you can enjoy a "social meal" that challenges expectations, with tasting menus often featuring numerous small servings that accommodate allergies with care. The wine selection is also noted as impressive. While the majority of experiences are overwhelmingly positive, with visitors looking forward to returning for the food, service, and price, some have noted the room can feel large and the pacing of dishes a bit quick. They advertise 13 dishes but in reality it is 5 servings. It is basically ok, and the food is ok. A bit narrow flavors but ok. What is worrying is hygiene. Will have to ask on several occasions to wipe the table, and the 3rd time she only used my wife's used napkin. On each table there is a bowl of salt. When I asked if it is replaced between servings she said yes. This does not happen, and that means everything is up to each guest's hygiene. Simply disgusting to think about how many traces of other people's urine and skin can be found in that bowl. This was pointed out in an email, and the answer was that they expect guests to maintain hygiene. This is unfortunately the restaurant's responsibility. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. Had higher expectations in a competitive city.

Overall, it was a very good experience. The small plates were full of interesting and well-balanced flavors. However, the main course was disappointing. The risotto was bland and lacked flavor, while the steak seemed overwhelmed by apple cider vinegar and topped with small pieces of apple, which did not work for us. After a few bites, we unfortunately left most of the dish untouched.

Mostly good tasting menu. The toughness of the meat was disappointing. Good value for money.

Impossible to get full, or have enough protein. tastes good anyway. But it's simply not worth the price. For 800 per person you should get enough food

We had the 13-course menu, and this was unfortunately a very disappointing experience. With so many dishes, there are many opportunities to showcase good Italian ingredients and distinct flavors, but very little hit the mark for us. The food was mostly bland, simple and without much depth. There were some good elements, and a soup/stock in particular was very good, but otherwise there was little we will remember. The service was decent, but the follow-up could have been better. It sometimes seemed like our service was being held back to accommodate other tables, and guests who came after us got several of the same dishes before us. There was therefore an unnecessary amount of waiting along the way. The drinks were good and the wine selection was just fine. Overall, one of the weaker Italian restaurant experiences we have had in Oslo, especially compared to the many very positive reviews.
