BFI Flare is the UK's LGBTQ+ film festival, run by the British Film Institute at the BFI Southbank. Held every March, the festival screens approximately 60 feature films and shorts from around the world, with an emphasis on work that would not receive wide theatrical distribution. The combination of the BFI's institutional authority and the festival's specifically queer programming makes Flare one of the most significant LGBTQ+ cultural events in Europe. The BFI Southbank screens on the South Bank are among the best cinema venues in the world; the festival's talks, Q&As and social events spread across the Southbank and into the city. Book early — popular screenings sell out weeks in advance.
