Hotel Nydeck is a small mainstream gay-friendly hotel at Gerechtigkeitsgasse 1, at the bottom of Bern's UNESCO-listed Old Town. It's next to the Nydeggbrücke, which crosses the Aare to the Bear Park and the Rosengarten viewpoint. It isn't a gay venue, just a well-placed, compact city hotel. From the door, the arcaded main streets lead uphill past the Zytglogge clock tower to the station in about 15 to 20 minutes on foot. There are also buses along the same route. The rooms are typical of an Old Town building, so they are smaller than at modern hotels. Google reviews average 4.2. Bern's small gay scene is concentrated around the Old Town and the station.

This hotel is definitely not a 3 star hotel, at best 2.5. The rooms are not well maintained and by far the worst internet connection I’ve experienced during many years of travel in Europe. The complimentary breakfast is below average, the coffee machine is very poor. They don’t automatically offer the free transportation pass, you have to ask. On the positive side the front desk staff (Mikail)and Darea, who serves breakfast are excellent employees,very nice and friendly. The location is also good. Could easily become a solid 3 star hotel if owner would invest. As a retired hotel manager, I wish I could recommend this hotel just because of the nice staff. But I can’t.
