Reel Affirmations est le festival de cinéma LGBTQ+ de Washington DC — l'un des plus anciens festivals queer des États-Unis, fondé en 1991. Le festival projette longs métrages, documentaires et courts du monde entier sur plusieurs jours en octobre, dans des salles à travers la métropole. Reel Affirmations occupe une place spécifique dans le calendrier culturel LGBTQ+ de DC : le créneau d'octobre, le caractère politique de la ville et 30 ans d'histoire lui confèrent le poids d'une institution culturelle plus que d'un événement boutique. Les éditions passées ont accueilli des films de dizaines de pays et des rencontres avec des cinéastes travaillant sur tout le spectre du cinéma queer. Le festival fonctionne autant comme rendez-vous culturel que comme moment communautaire — projections, discussions et événements sociaux associés concentrent une période intense d'activité culturelle LGBTQ+ entre la pride et la pleine reprise de la saison politique.
