Che Lagarto Hostel Buzios

My sneakers were stolen during my stay. I requested access to the security camera footage, but I was never given the information, and there was no follow-up on the case. Days earlier, I was informed that a cooler had gone missing, suggesting this wasn't an isolated incident. The hostel took no responsibility for the loss. Furthermore, the locker I was assigned had a faulty lock. I reported this to the staff, but the only solution offered was to share another locker with someone else, which doesn't guarantee the security of my belongings. Make sure you bring your own padlock because the hostel doesn't provide any. The no-drug policy on the premises is also not enforced. On the positive side, the hostel was kept clean and offered breakfast (at an additional cost). However, not all bunk beds have accessible power outlets. If you plan to store food in the communal refrigerator, it's advisable to label it prominently, otherwise it may be thrown away. Overall, the experience was acceptable, but the theft of my belongings and the lack of response from management left a bad impression.

Bad experience. Poor reception. 1. Cold showers and they did nothing about it. 2. We booked for four people together and they separated us and didn't help us. 3. Loud music. 4. Dirty, the kitchen and refrigerator were deplorable. 5. Drunk and shouting staff. 6. Wi-Fi doesn't reach everywhere. 7. The door is open all day and night; ANYONE can walk in. 8. Bad smells. Pros: 1. The pool is nice. 2. Pull-up bar. 3. Acceptable room cleaning. 4. Location. 5. You can come and go at any time.

The location is good and we had a nice welcome when we arrived. However, the bathrooms were very dirty and did not appear to have been cleaned properly. When we arrived, we asked what time the bathrooms are usually cleaned and were told around 8 a.m., but the next morning they were still in the same condition. We went to reception to ask about it, and unfortunately the staff member on duty was not very helpful. He mentioned that he had just arrived and didn’t know the cleaning schedule, and suggested that we clean it ourselves, which felt a bit dismissive. We understand that this is a hostel and not a luxury hotel, but basic cleanliness and friendly customer service make a big difference for travelers. Improving these aspects would definitely enhance the experience for guests.

A bunch of crooks!!! Here's our account for anyone thinking about staying at a hostel: we booked Carnival months in advance - a room for six people with a private bathroom. However, when we arrived exhausted after an 8-hour trip, there simply wasn't a room available for us. We waited about half an hour for a solution and, in the end, they put us in another room, without a bathroom. The next morning, we received a message from the hostel asking us to vacate the room and go to reception, where we were informed that we were without a room and that we should return in the afternoon to check what they had resolved. Faced with this whole situation, we were worried about whether we would really have anywhere to sleep in the coming days, until the manager Sofia arrived and, to try to alleviate the problem, said she would refund that night. However, after that, they simply started ignoring our messages. An extremely frustrating and disrespectful experience for those who planned and booked so far in advance.

This is one of the worst hostels I've ever stayed in, by far. The staff were incredibly rude. And the facilities were a disaster. They play music until almost midnight at an absurd volume; you can't get any rest, and they couldn't care less because the music is for the staff. They don't care about the guests' comfort.

It looks like a dive bar by the pool with loud music. Super crowded rooms with bunk beds and little space to move around. Shared bathroom: I found a clean one downstairs, without the smell of sewage. For those who come to Búzios to party, for leisure and fun, it's worth it. For those who come for WORK, IT'S NOT SUITABLE FOR REST! Too much noise, chatter, loud music, a beat that tires the mind, like a nightclub. Service: 1 set of sheets Breakfast at 8 am, 22 reais. I will never stay here again.

Great breakfast

We were in the hostel for a week, every day when we showered we had cold water, the music was at full volume from 09:00 in the morning until 00:00 which was unbearable during the hours you wanted to sleep, even when you just ask to turn down the music the employees do not approve. The employees enter without knocking and when you are sleeping they sometimes turn on the light to arrange something in the room which is not appropriate at all, the employees enter every day regularly at 07:00 in the morning to turn off the air conditioner so you get up from the noise of the music or the heat. In general, the attitude of the employees is very unpleasant and disrespectful. A really unpleasant experience and I will not return to this hostel again and I will not recommend it!

Confirmed my booking months ago. Bought my flight around this date. Then cancelled weeks later due to “technical issues beyond their ability to resolve”. Of course, prices for their own hostels and alternatives in Rio had doubled in this time period, leaving me unable to find an alternative that was not €100 per night for a dorm. When reaching out to Che Lagarto politely but upset, they were completely unwilling to accomodate in any way possible, basically saying “tough luck” and afterwards ignoring me and blocking me. I would avoid any and all business with a chain like Che Lagarto.
