Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival
About This Event
Fairy Tales Queer Art and Film Festival, presented by the Calgary Queer Arts Society, is Calgary's longest-running queer film festival. The 2026 edition marked its 28th year. To be considered, films must have queer creators at the helm, be made within the last two years, and be either Canadian or international shorts or features - they're also eligible for juried and audience awards.
Screenings take place in the Heather Edwards Theatre at Contemporary Calgary (701 11 St SW). You'll find drag sets, live music, DJs, and art installations in the atrium between films. It's $15 plus GST for single screenings, or $115 plus GST for a full pass - though an early-bird pass can be had for $99. Contemporary Calgary is wheelchair accessible.
The 2026 festival ran from 13 to 17 May, with 42 films from 20 countries - it opened with the Canadian musical Starwalker.
