About this place Fort Garry Hotel

Built in 1913 on Broadway in downtown Winnipeg, the Fort Garry is an old-school railway hotel with high ceilings and a proper sense of scale. It’s a mainstream hotel that welcomes gay travellers, not a queer-specific space. The rooms lean classic rather than trendy. Check your booking before you arrive—plenty of rates fold breakfast in, and the on-site spa runs a Turkish bath you won't find anywhere else in town. Location is the real draw here. You can walk to the Forks in about 10 minutes, and the Convention Centre is just as close. Club 200, the city's primary gay bar, sits a few blocks north on Garry Street. It's an easy walk, though in a Winnipeg winter you'll want to zip your coat all the way up.

The hotel feels very old-world and instantly takes you back in time. My daughters loved the revolving door, even though it was a bit of a struggle with luggage. I did have a glass break in the room— random accident or possible ghost activity? I'II leave that open. My daughters chose this hotel specifically for the "haunted" reputation, which I'm fairly sure has some truth to it. I couldn't get Room 202 (maybe for the best—| prefer sleeping without fear or anxiety anyway). Overall, we're glad we stayed. It's a beautiful, historic hotel with a unique atmosphere, and we'd definitely return.
