The WIT, at 201 North State Street, is a contemporary hotel in Chicago that’s refreshingly upfront about wanting queer guests.
The design is smart, a little edgy, and runs through the whole place, from the lobby to the rooms. You’ll find all the standard upscale hotel amenities, but the real draw for an LGBTQ+ traveler is its location: right in the middle of downtown, meaning quick access to public transit and the gay-friendly neighborhoods like Boystown.
Head up to The ROOF bar and lounge for a drink. The views of the Chicago skyline aren’t just good; they’re why you go. It’s a solid spot to decompress after a day of pounding the pavement.
They also have a yoga studio on-site. If you’re someone who likes to keep up a routine, or just wants to stretch out before hitting the city, it’s there. For more information, including rates and availability, check thewithotel.com.

This hotel is not a 4 star hotel. It’s way overpriced. The service isn’t great at all. My room wasn’t clean. I brought it to the front desk’s attention, they sent housekeeping up to change the bed, however they didn’t. They covered the stained sheets with another sheet. I brought it to their attention again. Housekeeping came and handed me more sheets. For the price you’re paying, you shouldn’t have to deal with that at all. I will not be back and I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone.
The L is right outside! So loud!!!
The rooms at TheWit are nicely renovated with a modern feel, although some details like the drapes seem to have been forgotten during the update. The TV was also far too small for the size of the room. The rooftop bar and restaurant were the highlight of the stay and easily a 10/10 experience. The front desk staff were not particularly friendly or helpful, which was disappointing. The lobby restaurant felt more like a dive bar than a hotel dining experience. I’d only return for a cheap happy hour drink. Housekeeping was solid and did a good job throughout my stay. One final note: the toilet paper is basically sandpaper. For a hotel at this price point, that was a surprising choice.
The worst experience I’ve ever had when traveling. Called ahead and let them know we were running behind and told them what time we would be at the hotel. We were told that wasn’t a problem and that it was noted we were still coming. After arriving (earlier than we thought by the way) we were told the room was given away and we would be sent to another hotel! They told us that the next hotel would be a free upgrade for the night for our inconvenience.. 🙄 The comped hotel was a complete dump, no where near an upgrade nor close to what we signed up for! Let’s not forget to mention a fight upstairs of the Wit made its way to the lobby.
I tried checking in twice at 12 and 3 pm. At 11pm they rebooked me and made me pay for the Uber ride to the hotel they booked me at. This was in the middle of the night and without warning. Completely unprofessional place. Security guards all over the lobby, obviously not safe.
