About this place Equality Illinois

Equality Illinois, Chicago's biggest LGBTQ+ advocacy group, works out of North Halsted. It’s a good place to start if you want to understand the city's commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and community support. They spend their time on two things: getting new laws passed and educating people. These aren't small issues, either. Think employment discrimination, marriage equality (even though it's legal now, the fight continues), family law, stopping violence, preventing hate crimes, transgender rights, and making schools safer for everyone. You'll find their offices on North Halsted Street, right in the middle of one of Chicago’s most historically important LGBTQ+ neighborhoods. If you're in town and want to get a sense of what the local LGBTQ+ community cares about, or you're just interested in civil rights work, check out their website. Or, if you're nearby, stop in. You might learn something about the people working to make Illinois more equal.
