The Maker Hotel

Horrible experience. I checked out and moved to another hotel after just one night because I simply couldn't bear to stay any longer. While the interiors are visually curated, The Maker Hotel is a prime example of form over function and a complete lack of genuine hospitality. ​1. No Soundproofing & Terrible Mattress: The renovation is purely cosmetic. Because the hotel is on a corner, it faces constant traffic. However, they kept the cheap, single-pane windows that offer zero sound insulation. I spent the entire night listening to every car pass by and every footstep from the floor above. To make matters worse, the mattress was of abysmal quality—uncomfortable and worn out. They spent money on decor but skipped the essentials: a quiet room and a decent bed. ​2. Arrogant & Pretentious Staff: The staff is incredibly snobbish. I didn't pay high rates to feel judged or to follow their "rules" like I was in their private museum. I came to be welcomed, but I was made to feel like an intruder in their "artistic space." ​3. Hostile Spatial Design: The ground floor is almost entirely revenue-generating (cafe, restaurant, lounge). There is nowhere for a guest to simply sit and relax without being pressured to buy something. Aside from one solitary sofa, every inch of space is for profit. ​4. Relentless Sales Tactics: The solicitation never stops. Aggressive emails for dinner before arrival, pressure to buy a "half-price" upgrade at check-in, and even charging for morning coffee. After checkout, they spam you with marketing for their fragrances. ​ If you want a good night's sleep and to be treated with respect, stay elsewhere in Hudson.

This is my second stay at the Maker and it continues to be one of the most fabulous hotels I’ve stayed at worldwide. We picked a different suite this time around, and loved it as much, if not more. There is so much attention to detail and the quality of service is undeniable. I loved the disconnection from electronics that are usually so prevelent in run of the mill hotels. The sound system in each room, turn down service, and fireplaces were all fabulous. I cannot wait to make the trip back up to stay here again. So much love to your team!

The maker hotel is beautiful, the service is excellent, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Careful decisions were made to make your stay as comfortable and cozy as possible. I highly recommend a visit.

Stopped by for a drink last night at The Lounge. Great setting and bartender. Highly recommend it for a quiet drink.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Maker! The attention to detail was exceptional, down to the furniture and lighting selected for each room. When you walk into the space, you can tell that it was designed with a love of beauty. In addition to the stunning space itself, the thoughtful service made the experience so memorable. What a delight to wake up to a daily delivery of coffee and the NYT and to wind down in the evenings with tea. Thank you to the Maker staff for making our stay so special!

We chose The Maker for a cozy winter escape. Instead, we spent the night freezing in our room. Despite setting the heat to 86 degrees and waiting well over an hour, the room never warmed up. We were told the heat was “fine,” but it clearly wasn’t. Eventually, after may calls complaining ,they brought space heaters and blankets — not exactly what you expect for $1,400 a night. While management ,adter a lot of convincing, did refund our second night , when we decided to leave early, the overall handling of the situation felt dismissive and unsympathetic. Luxury pricing should come with basic comfort and responsive service. Unfortunately, we experienced neither. I would not recommend this hotel at all. Many other places to stay in the Hudson valley.

We booked a babymoon at The Maker Hotel and were genuinely excited about the stay. Unfortunately, due to the rare blizzard and extremely icy conditions upstate, we made the responsible decision not to travel—especially given that my wife is pregnant and safety was the priority. We reached out requesting either a refund or a credit, expecting at least some level of understanding given the circumstances. Instead, the hotel manager repeatedly hid behind “policy,” showing zero empathy or flexibility. There was no attempt to accommodate us as guests facing a real-life situation—just rigid, money-driven responses. What made this worse is that the hotel was able to rebook our room with another guest and collect the full amount for that stay, yet still initially refused any refund or credit. Only after they had been paid twice for the same room did they offer a credit for a future stay—completely missing the point. This was never about wanting a future vacation; it was about fair treatment and basic human decency. If you’re considering staying here, understand this clearly: do not expect The Maker to work with you if anything unexpected happens, no matter how reasonable or unavoidable the situation may be. Policies matter, but hospitality is about people—and this place showed none. We will not be returning and would caution others before booking.

Unsafe winter travel forced us to cancel our babymoon, yet the hotel showed zero understanding. Weeks of silence, constant transfers, and dismissive, rude responses—including questioning medical advice. For a “luxury” hotel at this price point, the lack of professionalism was shocking.

My husband and I booked a babymoon here. Last minute winter storm made it dangerous for me to travel there and we had to cancel our stay. The staff was not understanding in the slightest, and unresponsive. We kept getting transferred between different employees/representatives and it took us almost two weeks to hear back from them. Their responses were very rigid, rude, and uninformative. Staff even insisted that, despite medical assessment, I should have been able to travel and stay. We were very unhappy with the unresponsive and unprofessional manner in which staff treated us. For a hotel with a luxury reputation, and for the price point, we naively expected to be treated with more decency and professionalism.
