About this place Sycamore

This Ditmas Park spot puts a gay bar and a boutique flower shop together, which is certainly a combination. The bar side has a big list of craft beers, both American and international, plus one of the longest lists of American whiskeys you’ll find in Brooklyn or Manhattan.

The garden, open all year and covered in ivy, is the real draw. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, it’s especially nice out there, whether you’re alone or with friends. Stems, the flower shop next door, sells cut flowers by the stem. You can pick up a thoughtful gift, or just brighten your evening.

Open daily, this isn't a club. It's a genuine neighborhood place where LGBTQ+ visitors will feel welcome. Come for the whiskey, the flowers, or just a comfortable bar stool.

Bartender was a scammer. I asked for a beer on tap, and he brought me a can instead, then opened it immediately so I couldn't refuse it. He knew exactly what I ordered but pretended not to hear me. When I asked to speak to a manager, he turned his back and walked away. On top of that, I was overcharged. Terrible service and a shady way to treat customers.

On the recommendation of a friend I went there last night, mainly for the BBQ pop up, but to check out their bar as well . It was my first time and they do have a nice bar with a wide selection of spirits . After I ordered my BBQ I asked the Bartender to recommend a bourbon or whiskey that will pair well with BBQ. He has white long hair and wears glasses and a bit on the short side, he said he didn't know anything about pairing food with bourbon, but the way he said it was so disrespectful and so dismissive that I was really taken aback. I should of just walked out but I told him I would look around the bar and choose something . I saw they had widow jane whiskey so I asked him if they had any WJ finished in a wine or sherry cask . He let out a loud sigh and in an angry tone said " dude I don't anything about bourbon and how to pair anything I'm being honest I don't know anything about that " He was so annoyed that I asked him a couple of questions. What a poor attitude to have working in a bar . I can understand if a person doesn't know about certain spirits but that is NOT the way to handle it and that is NOT the way to speak to a customer . He could of said: I'll ask someone, or I'll find out for you, or in a nice way say: I'm sorry I just don't have that type of knowledge and it's so busy now I can't stop to find out for you , that would of been fine for me but this guy had such a NASTY attitude, it left a bitter taste in my mouth and I'm not sure if I'll go back . He certainly made a BAD first impression, he did do a generous pour so I still left him a $1 tip ( when the service is good I tip very well) but I guarantee that if it was someone else he had spoken to like that , he would be been cursed out but I'm not like that. The owner/ owners really have to be aware of people like this because they can ruin a business or maybe he is so arrogant because he is an owner . I don't know but what a terrible experience and the worst part is, when they advertised the BBQ pop up on the website, there was some text saying "come in and pair your BBQ with our drinks . " Well I tried to do that and we know how that went .
