Ty's Bar, a gay bar on Christopher Street in New York's West Village, has been around since 1972, and still feels like it.
You’ll find it on a stretch of Christopher Street that’s famous for its role in gay history, not that Ty’s makes a big deal of it. Inside, it's all wood and easy conversation. The bartenders are friendly. The crowd skews thirty-plus and notably bearish, though nobody checks your ID or your body type at the door. You’ll see t-shirts, jeans, baseball caps. It's that kind of place.
Sports play on the TV. A big bulletin board takes up a wall, covered in local event listings and community notices—a good way to figure out what's going on in the neighborhood. Ty’s doesn't put on airs; it’s just a bar where queer locals and visitors can grab a drink and feel at home.
If you're looking for a genuine piece of New York’s enduring queer culture, this is it. It’s part of Christopher Street’s legacy. For more, check tysbarnyc.com.

The old-school West Village charm and lively but comfortable vibe make it perfect for a relaxed night out. Drinks are strong and reasonably priced, and the crowd was fun and friendly. Service was quick and welcoming. It got busier later but was still enjoyable. About $10-20 per person. A reliable classic in the Village.
Great staff and super friendly atmosphere! Great place for a few drinks!
Nice place to grab a drink, but it's very small
Always a fun time. Great prices. Love starting the night here.
