Neptune, an Ash Hotel

My recent stay was genuinely unacceptable. I checked into my room under my name, went out for dinner, and came back to discover that another guest had been let into my room. When I confronted the front desk, the explanation was that they handed over a key to this person simply because we share the same name. No ID check? No booking confirmation? Nothing. This is a serious failure. My belongings, my privacy, and my safety were all put at risk because a receptionist couldn’t be bothered to do the most basic verification before giving a stranger access to an occupied room. Sharing a name is not, and has never been, proof of identity, and the fact that this is apparently acceptable practice here is alarming. I expect hotels to protect their guests, not hand out their room keys to whoever walks up to the desk with a matching first name. This was careless, unprofessional, and frankly a security breach. I want a clear explanation of how this happened and what is being done to make sure no other guest has to deal with this.

My son and I recently stayed at Neptune in Providence and genuinely had such a warm, memorable experience. The hotel is located in a really convenient area, an easy walk from the train station and close to the mall, parks, restaurants, and the waterfront. As a mom traveling with a child, I appreciated how walkable and easy everything felt. The building itself is beautiful and full of character. The moment you walk in, there’s this signature scent throughout the hotel that immediately makes the space feel cozy and inviting. The entire atmosphere feels historic, intimate, artistic, and thoughtfully preserved. My son was especially fascinated by the vintage gated elevator and all the old-world details throughout the property. The staff Dynashia and Anchantee, were incredibly kind and accommodating during our stay. From holding our luggage while we explored the area, to helping with directions, water refills, and anything we needed along the way, everyone we encountered was warm and attentive. One of the team members, Dynashia even helped carry my son’s suitcase to the elevator when we first arrived, which I really appreciated. The lobby spaces were comfortable and welcoming, with music playing and little areas to sit and relax. There’s also a café area downstairs and plenty of nearby food options within walking distance. Our room felt cozy, safe, and comfortable for both of us. I appreciated the charm and vintage design elements throughout the space the lighting, wooden floors, antique style fixtures, old-fashioned hallway phone setup, and overall boutique feel all made the stay feel unique and memorable. Because the building is historic, some parts naturally show age and character, but overall the hotel felt clean, calm, and thoughtfully maintained. The atmosphere felt intimate and peaceful, and I genuinely felt comfortable staying there with my 10-year-old son. One unexpected part of the trip was how much the hotel sparked my son’s curiosity about architecture and historic preservation. By the end of our stay, he was asking questions about older buildings and why places like this are preserved, which made the experience feel even more special. Overall, Neptune felt warm, creative, safe, and full of personality. I’d absolutely stay again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a boutique hotel experience with character and charm in Providence.

Very nice little boutique hotel right in the heart of Providence. Parking right on site for 42 dollars for 24hrs but you could try to find street parking for less. Rooms small but has everything you need including hair dryer and clothes steamer. Would def stay here again.

Super good I love it host is lovely and respectful

Beware! Our 3 night stay at Neptune was very close to glamping, but with less, so I'd call it more of an expensive hostel. Room was clean, there was a bed, a sink, a toilet, and a mini shower (Note: If you are really obese, you will not fit). There are rugs with holes which many would see as a trip hazard, but I believe these add the "Charm". There is no phone, no refrigerator, no coffee maker, and no microwave. (Murphy's Pub a few doors down is highly recommended.) There is a broken Ice machine on level 2, so bring a cooler if you need Ice. There was coffee downstairs, but they were out of milk on day two. There is an elevator that came out of the Ark (see photo). Elevator is slightly larger than the shower, with one door that wasn't working very well (they can't find a part). The broken door made it hard to enter/exit and the elevator was getting stuck on level 2 regularly. So it was stairs part time. We were originally on level 3, but the HVAC system broke on level 3 and 4, and we packed and moved to level 2 ... a room above the Karaoke Bar. You got to laugh, this is a bad sitcom episode! Love Rhode Island! Beautiful!

My room was so small but gorgeous. Old French vibes. Great photo opportunities as everything has an old timey photo aesthetic. Slept great. Beautiful shower. The people who work here are very nice and accommodating. They will help you find whatever you need. The restaurant bar lounge is conjoined. You can walk to anywhere downtown from the location. Happy I stumbled upon it.

I just ended my 5 day at the Neptune and what a delight. The hotel is a master class in minimalism, so if you are looking for room service, complimentary coffee machine in the room, or a mini bar- this isn’t your place BUT… if you want a hotel stay with a soul, character, and clean fresh digs this is your jam. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and went above and beyond. I had a problem with the Tv in my room, the manager came in in his evening off and when he was unable to fix it, they gave me a new- upgraded room! It is clear the team at this hotel care about their jobs, then hotel, and the guest experience. The location could not have been more convenient to some great restaurants, bars, cafes, and entertainment. 10/10!

Loved the hotel. It's in a very cool older building with a neat vintage elevator which makes it fun. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it couldn't be in a better location. We had a slight issue with parking, went to the lot next to the hotel and followed the posted instructions to pay at the kiosk. It gives minimal information and ended up charging me $46 untill 3am. Later that night I inquired about how to extend the parking overnight where the front desk woman showed me a QR code to pay for 24hr parking. I wish this information was given in advance or even when I checked in, I suspect many guests end up double paying for parking also. Better communication is needed on this.

This is for the new restaurant Memeres I just found this place as a local and full transparency, I did not stay at the hotel, but I did go to the restaurant and I’m honestly still thinking about the experience. I’ve been to a lot of restaurants in Providence, and this was unlike anything I’ve had here. From the start, you could tell this wasn’t just a typical dinner. It was a true tasting experience. The salmon roe appetizer was incredible, and every course that followed somehow topped the last. I tried beef tartare and duck for the first time, and the crispy duck was easily one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The filet was unreal, it genuinely tasted like Kobe beef. Even the cheese course with honeycomb at the end was on another level. What made it stand out most was the intention behind everything. The pacing, the presentation, the way each course built on the last. It felt thoughtful without being pretentious. I don’t usually go to French restaurants, but this completely blew my mind. This is easily one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had in Rhode Island.
