Provincetown Carnival 2026
About This Event
Provincetown Carnival is the biggest week of the year at the tip of Cape Cod — a full week in mid-August, 15–22 August in 2026, when this small New England fishing town turns into one long costume party. It is the 48th edition, and each year has a theme; 2026's is "Deep Sea Disco."
The whole week builds to the Carnival Parade on Thursday 20 August at 3pm, a riot of floats, feathers and near-nakedness that moves the length of Commercial Street, the narrow main drag that runs the length of town. Tens of thousands pack the sidewalks, storefronts and porches to watch — it is the single biggest day P-town sees all year, so claim a spot early.
Around the parade the week is wall-to-wall: the Net Gala opens it, there are tea dances at the Boatslip, pool parties, drag headliners at Town Hall, and late nights at the A-House and the Crown & Anchor. Some of it is free, a lot of it is ticketed — the Provincetown Business Guild, which invented Carnival back in 1978, runs the official events and sells passes through its site.
Practical notes: Provincetown is a long way out on the Cape and books out completely for Carnival, so a room needs booking months ahead — many people book a year out. The easiest way in from Boston is the fast ferry, about 90 minutes, rather than the long drive down the Cape. It is a walking town; leave the car at the guesthouse. And bring a costume — on parade day, everyone is in one.
