About this place Just John Club

Just John Club is the anchor of St. Louis's gay bar scene — the largest gay venue in the city, located on Manchester Avenue in The Grove neighbourhood, and the place where St. Louis's LGBTQ+ community reliably congregates for everything from a Wednesday night drink to a Saturday night celebration. The bar operates across multiple indoor spaces and an expansive outdoor patio that is one of the best gay outdoor drinking environments in the American Midwest: generous in size, well-maintained, and positioned on Manchester Avenue so that the energy of The Grove's street life is visible and part of the experience. The programming covers the full range of gay bar formats: drag shows, themed dance nights, karaoke, bear nights, and the kind of flexible weekly calendar that keeps a venue relevant to multiple communities simultaneously. The crowd is the full cross-section of St. Louis's gay community — young and old, diverse in race and background, regulars who have been coming for years alongside visitors discovering The Grove for the first time. Just John is the bar that every LGBTQ+ visitor to St. Louis should experience, both because it is the best bar in the city's gay scene and because it serves as the most complete expression of that community's social life. The Manchester Avenue location means that Attitudes Bar and Rehab Bar & Grill are within a short walk, enabling a proper Grove bar crawl.

Nice, friendly place. Plenty of space, with a patio area as well.

I decided to bring my beautiful dog Muffin here because I heard they allow dogs here. The bartender was very welcoming, but then he referred to Muffin as a doberman. I was shocked that I heard this as Muffin is a doberwoman. I had informed him of Muffin's proper pronouns, but the bartender simply laughed and didn't apologize. Me and Muffin immediately left, but Muffin has been severely traumatized from this experience. It is a real shame that in today's age, poor Muffin wasn't given the respect she deserves and was referred to by the wrong pronouns.
