Last verified: October 2026. Sitges is a small town, and that is the whole point of choosing a hotel here: almost everything a gay visitor wants sits inside a rectangle you can cross in ten minutes, between the train station, the church on its rock and the Passeig de la Ribera. The bars are packed into three or four streets around Carrer de Joan Tarrida and Carrer de Bonaire, the gay beach is in front of Hotel Calipolis, the only sauna is on Carrer d'Espalter. Sleep inside that rectangle and you never need a taxi. Sleep outside it and you will spend your evenings on the Passeig Marítim walking back. This guide tells you which streets to sleep on, which hotels are actually gay or men-only in 2026 (two are, both small), how Spanish ID registration affects bringing someone back, and what Pride, Bears Week and Carnival do to prices.

Where to sleep, street by street

The walking times below are measured from the corner of Carrer de Joan Tarrida and Plaça de la Indústria, where Parrots Pub sits and where every Sitges night ends up, at an unhurried 80 metres a minute with real street corners counted. The bar streets are Joan Tarrida (XXL, El Horno, Man Bar, Parrots, Cox, Runway Terrace), Bonaire (Bears Bar, Queenz, Dark, Moulin Rose, Vertigo, La Locacola) and the ends of Sant Bonaventura (El Piano) and Espalter (Queenz, the sauna). Carrer Primer de Maig, Carrer del Pecat, runs from the seafront up to Plaça de la Indústria. In 2026 it is the straight mass-party strip: British stag groups, street drinking and loud bars until 03:00. Most gay visitors avoid it and cut through Carrer de Sant Bonaventura or along the promenade to reach Joan Tarrida; sleep above it only if you can sleep through anything.

Inside the rectangle: 1–5 minutes

    • Joan Tarrida / Bonaire / Plaça de la Indústria (Axel, Parrots, Divino, El Cid, Galeón): you walk home in a minute and hear everything. In July and August pick a courtyard room or bring earplugs.
    • Passeig de la Ribera (Platjador, Celimar, Subur, Kalma, La Santa María): the promenade is the town's living room; the bars are one or two streets inland, 2–5 minutes. Sea-view rooms get the late promenade chatter rather than club bass.
    • Illa de Cuba / Sant Isidre / Carrer de Jesús (Liberty, Noucentista, El Xalet, Medium Romàntic, Medium Sitges Park): the old-town streets between the station and the bars. Quietest sleep in the centre, 4–5 minutes from Joan Tarrida, 3 minutes from the station. Know what a protected 19th-century house means, though: no lift, period wooden windows without double glazing, and narrow lanes where suitcase wheels on the paving and the 04:00 stragglers echo off the walls. In July and August some of the old air-conditioning units struggle with heatwaves. If you are a light sleeper, confirm an inner room with a modern split unit before you book.
    • Carrer d'en Tacó / Sant Sebastià side (Élite): behind the church, 4 minutes to the bars and 10–12 minutes to Balmins, the nudist beach.

The Avinguda Sofia end: 6–7 minutes

Calipolis, MiM Sitges, Casa METT and Mediterráneo stand where Avinguda Sofia meets the Passeig Marítim, directly across from Platja de la Bassa Rodona, the gay beach. This is the Pride epicentre: the Village is built on the seafront here and the parade ends at the Calipolis. To the bars it is a flat 6–7 minute walk along the promenade.

Outside the rectangle: taxi at night

    • Vinyet and Terramar (Casa Vilella 12 min, Sunway Tara 13, Antemare 18, ME Sitges Terramar 35): the Passeig Marítim runs west for two kilometres past villas and the golf club. Lovely by day, dark and empty at 03:00; a taxi from the Avinguda Sofia rank is €8–12.
    • Aiguadolç (Meliá Sitges, 20 min): over the hill east of the church, above the marina, 5 minutes from Balmins. Taxi rank outside the hotel.
    • Poble Sec, behind the station: 10–12 minutes, where the Barcelona buses stop (Parc Can Robert). Apartments rather than hotels.
    • Sant Pere de Ribes / Garraf hills: Casa Brisa, the men-only guesthouse with a clothing-optional pool, is 6–10 km inland. You need a car; Sitges itself is not walkable from there.

Gay, men-only, gay-run or just friendly: the honest list

Sitges has been Spain's gay resort for fifty years and every hotel in town is used to two men or two women sharing a bed; that part needs saying once. "Gay hotel", though, means something specific, and in 2026 very few places earn it.

Hotel LibertyIlla de Cuba 4514 rooms in an 1870s "Cuban" house with a garden courtyard, run by a German couple and their team; gay-run and gay-popular, mixed guests. Not gay-owned in any documented sense, so we don't claim it. Reception closes in the afternoon.4–5 min

Who changed since the last time you were here

    • Hotel Capri → Casa METT Sitges (August 2026): five noucentista villas on Avinguda Sofia, now a 38-room adults-only hotel run by Sunset Hospitality, and an official Pride 2026 partner.
    • Hotel La Niña → Kalma Sitges (Sercotel): the gay branding is gone.
    • Hostal Maricel → Élite Hotel – Gay Men Only: the men-only option the town lacked for years.
    • Avenida Sofía → Hotel MiM Sitges (Meliá Collection): rooftop pool and spa, host of the Pride Sunset Tea Dance and the Bears Week rooftop tea dance.
    • Hotel Montserrat closes for the winter (mid-October to end of April); Hotel Medium Romàntic closes 13 November to 21 March.
    • On the bar streets: Moulin Rose opened at Bonaire 13 (December 2024); Bunker and Organic/Trailer have gone; Vertigo (ex-Privilege) was reported closed in October 2026, so check before planning a night around it.

Bringing someone back: ID, joiners and small hotels

There is no "joiner fee" culture in Spain. The thing that actually governs overnight guests is the law. Since 2 December 2024, Royal Decree 933/2021 obliges every hotel, hostal and holiday flat to register every guest aged 14 and over in the police SES.Hospedajes system, with passport details and payment data, under fines of up to €30,000. In practice:

    • At check-in everybody shows a passport or EU ID card; book the room for two guests if two of you are staying, and both register.
    • A visitor who turns up at midnight has not been registered. Big hotels with a night porter will usually register him on the spot if you ask; small houses with a reception that closes in the afternoon (Hotel Liberty, several of the old-town guesthouses) physically can't, and will refuse. Casa Vilella's bar and restaurant are for registered guests only.
    • The golden tip, as in every Spanish resort: if there is any chance of company, book for two guests from the start. There is no supplement for a registered second guest beyond the normal double rate, and nothing to argue about at 02:00.
    • Élite (men only) and Casa Brisa are small houses: ask about visitors when you book rather than assuming.

24-hour reception: Calipolis, MiM, Meliá, ME Terramar, Platjador, La Santa María and Kalma have it. Liberty does not (desk closes mid-afternoon); Noucentista's listings contradict each other; Parrots and Élite don't say. If you fly in late, check.

The gay beach, Balmins and Home Mort: real distances

    • Platja de la Bassa Rodona, the gay beach, is in front of Hotel Calipolis on the Passeig Marítim: 4–5 minutes from the Joan Tarrida bars, 10 from the station. Lifeguards, showers, toilets, sunbed and umbrella hire (2026 tariff not published; the concession runs under the town's beach plan). Bars are on the promenade, not the sand. Smoking has been banned on all Sitges beaches since the 2026 season, fine up to €300, and so has playing music.
    • Platja dels Balmins: the nudist coves past the church and the cemetery, 10–15 minutes from the centre. Three small coves: the first (western) one is mixed and family-ish, the central and eastern coves are the gay heart of the beach, fully clothing-optional. Textiles are tolerated, there is a small bar on the sand, and above the beach sits El Vivero, the lounge-restaurant where the gay crowd takes its sunset cocktail before heading into town. Take the second path down, not the first, which is the steep one.
    • Platja de l'Home Mort ("Playa del Muerto"): the gay nudist beach with the pine-wood cruising behind it is a long way west. Walk the Passeig Marítim to its end at ME Sitges Terramar, drop to the coast path, pass the golf club car park and follow the path beside the railway for another 10–15 minutes: 45 minutes to an hour from the centre, 15 from the Terramar hotels, 10 minutes by taxi (park free at the golf club if driving). Pebbles, a small chiringuito that is often closed, no reliable toilets. Bring water, and take the walk seriously: after fatal accidents, ADIF has fenced long stretches beside the line, crossing or walking on the tracks is a criminal offence with heavy police fines, the final descent is a rocky, slippery dirt path, there is no lifeguard and mobile signal is patchy in parts of the cove. Closed walking shoes, not flip-flops. Nudity is legal on Spanish beaches and nobody fines you for it here, but anything left on a towel while you swim or walk into the woods is an easy theft: take nothing you can't afford to lose, swim in turns.
    • Sauna Sitges, Carrer d'Espalter 11: the town's one gay sauna, 3 minutes from Joan Tarrida. Summer daily 16:00–21:00 and again 01:00–08:00; winter 16:00–20:00 Sunday–Thursday and 01:00–08:00 Friday–Saturday; about €17. The cruise bars (Bears Bar, Dark, XXL in summer, El Horno for the over-40s) are all within three minutes of each other.

Anyone wanting a quiet September week will find the town full.

No Sitges hotel publishes Pride-week rates, but gay-hotel bookings here are made on average seven to eight weeks ahead, and the organisers warn the partner hotels sell out. There is no "White Party" in Sitges, whatever older calendars say.

    Three picks per budget

    • Budget: Hotel El Cid (Carrer de Sant Josep, 3 min, honest two-star with a pool); Casa Rainbow (gay guesthouse, 3 min, basic); Hostal Termes by the station for the cheapest clean bed (not listed).
    • Mid-range: Parrots Hotel (you are sleeping above the pub, which is the point); Hotel Liberty (courtyard breakfast, quiet street, no lift); Platjador (seafront, rooftop bar, Pride partner, 2 min); Hotel Galeón / Pavillón (rooftop pool and jacuzzi, 3 min, steady service).
    • Upper: Axel (rooftop pool, the scene's hotel); MiM Sitges (rooftop pool and spa across from the gay beach); Casa METT (new, adults-only, villas on Avinguda Sofia).
    • Men only: Élite in town, Casa Brisa in the hills if you have a car.

Getting in late and getting home

    • Barcelona airport to Sitges: there is no direct train. Take the R2 Nord one stop from Terminal 2 to El Prat de Llobregat (trains until about 23:38; free shuttle from T1) and change to the R2 Sud, about 24 minutes to Sitges; the last connection leaves El Prat around 00:17. From Barcelona itself the last R2 Sud trains leave Estació de França 23:49, Passeig de Gràcia 00:00 and Sants 00:06, arriving Sitges 00:44; the first morning trains run from about 05:30. Sitges station (Plaça Eduard Maristany) is a 5–8 minute downhill walk to the Ribera. Rodalies is fragile: the Garraf tunnel works, strikes and signalling faults have disrupted the R2 Sud through 2025–26. Install the Rodalies de Catalunya (or Adif) app for live status, and remember that when the train stops, the Busgarraf stop at Parc Can Robert is the reliable plan B.
    • The Barcelona midnight trap: many visitors combine Sitges with a night in the Gaixample. The last R2 Sud leaves Barcelona at 00:00–00:06. If your party starts at 01:30 (Apolo, Input, a Circuit night), the only ways back are the hourly N30 night bus from Plaça Espanya or a €80–100 taxi. If you plan a Barcelona night, sleep in Barcelona that night.
    • Taxi from the airport: €60–75 from T1, €65–80 from T2, plus the Garraf tunnel toll; a pre-booked transfer €65–90. Barcelona city to Sitges €75–85. No fixed tariff exists.
    • Direct airport bus (the option most guides skip): Busgarraf runs a direct bus from the Terminal 1 bus bays to Parc Can Robert by Sitges station (T2 passengers take the free T1 shuttle), roughly hourly in the daytime and evening, about 35–40 minutes, around €8. For a daytime T1 arrival with luggage it beats the two-train route; it does not run at night.
    • Buses: the e16 Barcelona–Sitges (from Gran Via/Aribau and Plaça Espanya to Parc Can Robert by the station) runs until about 22:05 from Barcelona; the N30 night bus from Gran Via 588 and Plaça Espanya is the only public transport after the last train (Friday and Saturday nights roughly 00:45, 01:15, 02:00, 03:00, 03:45, 04:45 to Sitges, stop at the Oasis shopping centre). The airport bus runs via Terminal 1 roughly hourly and does not run at night.
    • Ride-hailing: Uber works in Sitges but mostly dispatches local taxis with longer waits; Cabify exists for pre-booked airport runs; Bolt does not serve Sitges. Use Radio Taxi Sitges, +34 93 894 13 29 (about 40 cabs), or the ranks at the station, outside the Meliá, at the Oasis centre and on the Passeig Marítim at Avinguda Sofia (plus the Platjador and Terramar in summer).
    • Car and parking: C-32 toll motorway through the Garraf tunnels (exit 30) or the free, slow C-31 coast road. Street parking is blue zone (€1.35/hour, 3-hour maximum €3.70, 09:00–22:00 on La Fragata and the Ribera) or green resident-priority zone; free park-and-ride on Carrer del Mestre Manuel Torrents, paid at Can Robert by the station. Platjador has no parking; La Santa María and the Avinguda Sofia hotels do.

    Money, tax and the night

    • Tourist tax (IEET): Catalonia raised it on 1 April 2026 and raises it again on 1 April 2027. In Sitges, per person per night for up to 7 nights, under-17s exempt: five-star €4.50 (→ €6.00), four-star €1.80 (→ €2.40), other hotels and hostals €0.90 (→ €1.20), tourist flats €1.75 (→ €2.50). Sitges applies no municipal surcharge as of October 2026 (unlike Barcelona's €5), so a week in a three-star for two adds about €13. It is added at check-out.
    • Apartments: every legal holiday flat shows a Catalan HUTB licence number and, since July 2025, a state NRUA registry number on the listing. No number, no booking.
    • Noise: the trade-off is simple. Joan Tarrida, Bonaire and Primer de Maig are loud until 03:00 in summer (Moulin Rose 20:00–03:00, El Horno and Parrots to 02:30–03:00); the Ribera gets promenade chatter until 01:00 and the Festa Major fireworks on 23 August at 23:00. Illa de Cuba, Sant Isidre and the Avinguda Sofia hotels are quiet.
    • Room safety and apps: Spain's chemsex and drugged-drink problem is Barcelona's more than Sitges's, but a Grindr-date case in Barcelona in May 2025 (four men sedated with a benzodiazepine in a drink and robbed) is the pattern to know. Meet first in a bar on Joan Tarrida, use the room safe before anyone comes up, pour your own drinks. Drug possession in public is an administrative offence fined €601–10,400 under the public security law; a planned reduction to €100–500 was not in force in October 2026.
    • Smoking: hotels may designate up to 30% of rooms for smokers; light up in any other room and you pay the cleaning charge plus a possible fine. All Sitges beaches are smoke-free since 2026.
    • Winter: from November to February XXL is closed, Bears Bar opens Friday and Saturday only, Queenz Thursday to Saturday, and several seafront hotels (Romàntic, Montserrat) shut; Carnival is the exception, when everything opens.

    Health

    • Emergencies 112; medical advice 061 (24 h). The nearest A&E is Hospital Residència Sant Camil, Ronda Sant Camil, Sant Pere de Ribes (8 km, 15 minutes by taxi, +34 93 896 00 25); EHIC/GHIC cards are accepted there and at CAP Sitges, Camí dels Capellans (weekday daytime; out of hours call 061).
    • PEP within 72 hours: go to Sant Camil or a Barcelona hospital A&E (Clínic, Vall d'Hebron); BCN Checkpoint (Barcelona, appointment only) handles PrEP, with long public waiting lists, so bring your own supply.
    • Pharmacies: no permanent 24-hour pharmacy in Sitges; the duty pharmacy rota is on pharmacy doors and visitsitges.com.

Frequently asked questions

Which neighbourhood should I sleep in to walk home from the gay bars?

Anywhere between the train station and the Passeig de la Ribera: Joan Tarrida and Bonaire if you want the bars outside the door, Illa de Cuba and Sant Isidre for a quieter old-town sleep 4–5 minutes away, the Ribera or Avinguda Sofia for the sea. Is there a gay men-only hotel in Sitges?

Yes, one in town: Élite Hotel – Gay Men Only on Carrer d'en Tacó, a small clothing-optional guesthouse with a hot tub and roof deck. Casa Brisa, a gay-owned men-only guesthouse, is in the hills at Sant Pere de Ribes and needs a car. Axel and Parrots are gay hotels in spirit but admit all adults.
