About this place C.U.M GAY BAR
C.U.M is one of just three gay venues in the whole of Mongolia, a small bar tucked off the tourist street in Chingeltei district, a short walk from Sukhbaatar Square. The name is exactly as provocative as intended, and the bar wears it proudly.
The week peaks on Wednesday, when local drag performers take over for the house show. The rest of the week it works as a low-key cocktail bar where the crowd is mostly young Mongolian regulars plus whichever travellers have done their homework - visitors often compare the intimate, chatty feel to the tiny bars of Tokyo or Taipei.
Staff are used to foreign guests and enough English is spoken to get by. Expect local beers, simple cocktails and karaoke breaks between shows.
Ulaanbaatar has no gay district, so this is one of the few doors in the country that is openly, unapologetically queer. Check their socials for show times before heading over, as schedules shift.
