Christchurch Pride
About This Event
Christchurch Pride (Ōtautahi Christchurch Pride) is a month of LGBTQIA+ events across the city every March. A volunteer team puts it together.
It has no single big day. The month opens with a walk or parade and a picnic. After that come drag, sport, film and parties, each run by a different group. In 2026 the opener became the Pride Parade and Picnic on 1 March. It started at 2pm at The Commons, on the corner of Kilmore and Durham Streets, and ended in Victoria Square with drag, dance and live music. That evening Good Times Comedy Club ran Rainbow Riot, a comedy and drag night.
Other 2026 events included a boat party, a pool party at the hot pools and a Rainbow Ride by bike. There was also a Chinese-language queer film screening at Christchurch Art Gallery. The Ōtautahi Pride Market was held on 28 March in the car park at 284 Cashel Street. Burnett Foundation Aotearoa runs the market and says about 3,000 people came the year before. A closing picnic with Rainbow Families Aotearoa was held on 29 March.
Some events are ticketed and some are free. The calendar on chchpride.co.nz keeps changing through the month, so check it close to your trip. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
