About this place Schöneberger Weltlaterne

Schöneberger Weltlaterne is a gay restaurant in Berlin's Schöneberg, on Motzstraße southwest of Viktoria-Luise-Platz, serving up German comfort food with live music.

The place feels like a step back in time, all warm décor and a cozy vibe that nods to an older Berlin. Angelika Rüdiger, a chanteuse herself, runs the show, and you can tell she’s put her stamp on the intimate, friendly atmosphere.

On the menu, it’s all about stick-to-your-ribs German classics. Think Leberknödelsuppe (liver dumpling soup) or Gulaschsuppe. They do fish, fried chicken, wursts, and schnitzels, plus a few steaks—one’s even called Rumpsteak "Dracula." It’s the kind of cooking that feels familiar and hearty, tapping into what Berliners have eaten for generations.

Friday nights are when it gets a little special. Pianist Timo Tietz plays while you eat, which adds a nice layer to the whole experience. Good food, a bit of music, and service that feels genuinely welcoming—it's a solid option for an evening that feels both like a celebration and just a really comfortable night out.

There were two of us who came to order the pork knuckle. After a short wait, the knuckles arrived, but unfortunately, one of them was half cold from the refrigerator and therefore inedible. The second knuckle was hot and good. Unfortunately, I won't be ordering pork knuckle or anything "complex" again.

Nice German restaurant. Great service. We still had a table, so making a reservation might be a good idea.

This quaint restaurant is well worth a visit. The ambiance alone is vibrant and reminiscent of the 1930s to 1960s. Time seems to have stood still here, but that's part of its charm. The menu is superb. You can choose, mix and match different dishes, and the drinks menu is excellent. We had asparagus there, and I have to say it deserves more than five stars. The roulade also deserves more than five stars, and the schnitzel was so good you could even hear it being pounded. So, all in all, everything is fresh and homemade – highly recommended. The staff is incredibly friendly, and cleanliness, even in the restrooms, is a top priority. All in all, I would say that if you're going to Berlin or are in Berlin, you absolutely must visit this restaurant. I find the prices perfectly reasonable. You don't get anything for free these days, but the portions are generous, and the value for money is excellent. So, we will definitely be back when we're in Berlin again.
