Exeter Rougemont hotel by Sunday

A journey stop over. Use the carpark at the hotel if you can. The other carpark is short walk away and more expensive.

The room was fine but the bed was uncomfortable, I could feel the springs in my back. Probably time to change mattresses.

The Rougemont hotel was delightful! We were checked in by Veronica, who was most helpful and embodied what customer service should be - kudos!! I've set the room to 4 star as the elevator was out, and has been non-operational for an extended time. While it was just a minor inconvenience for us, I did need to assist with a handicapped individual up to the second floor. Aside from that the room was lovely and spacious and overlooked the central station.

I was enjoying my stay at the Rougemont until we came down for breakfast. Breakfast started at 08:00 & on our arrival at 08:30 there was very little of the fried breakfast left. We had to ask for more to be brought out. The plates were cold & there was no hot water for drinks. I felt the breakfast was very poor quality for what we paid. I will stay at the Rougemont again, but sadly I will eat breakfast elsewhere.

I've stayed here twice. The first time my room was excellent - roomy and quiet. The room I had for my following visit wasn't great. It had been partitioned, and judging from the thunderous snores I endured all night from the room on the other side of the partition, soundproofing was sorely lacking. When I complained about the noise at checkout the receptionist assured me that if I had called down, they would have tried to relocate me. While that's a nice sentiment it's not ideal to have to pack up and change rooms at 11in the evening. My visits were 6 weeks apart and on both occasions the lift was broken. My luggage weighs around 40kg. My rooms in both visit were on the first floor which is a stair climb of two flights. The receptionist helped me carry my cases up the stairs on my first visit, but no assistance was offered on my second visit. Breakfasts were good on both occasions. After my first visit I was keen to stay again, but after this second disappointing visit I'm not sure if I would consider returning.

Customer service and room clean is not perfect

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The cleanliness standards are appalling. I had to change rooms initially because the room had multiple contact lenses on the floor and had clearly not been vacuumed. In my second room, i woke up to carpet beetles crawling across my bed and several more running across the floor. Judging by other reviews, insect infestations are not uncommon. I reported this at reception and was forced to cut my stay short and am still waiting on a refund 2 weeks later. The reception staff are very friendly but I have received no communication as to my refund despite repeatedly chasing it up. This is unacceptable. The hotel shouldn't even receive 1*. There are many nice places to stay in Exeter - avoid Rougemont!

We were led to believe there was parking at this hotel, but when we arrived the car park was full. We were told that there was a car park down the road, which cost us £20 for the night. We asked about the restaurant, which was not part of the hotel. I went to book a table, and was told that they don't take bookings and it was pot luck if you got a table, as this is a pub and not a restaurant as stated in their advert. So they should call this the pot luck hotel, pot luck if you get a parking space, and pot luck if you get a table. A hotel usually has its own restaurant and bar, but this one does not, and when I went in there, it was so noisy. We test out hotels, and we will not be coming back to this one. One thing I will say,is, Exeter has a lot of restaurants, and you have plenty of choice.

Room was decent for price, the double bed was two singles pushed together and there were a couple of small bits of mold in the bathroom. Staff were friendly and checked that the climb was okay as the lifts were not working. Very convenient location.
