City Gate (Hotel)

Went for works Christmas do last night it was excellent from talking with Jon to help organise our event to on the night with excellent service from Kirsty and the team. Lovely food and atmosphere.

Fabulous hotel, staff & food. Do not miss! The staff are totally amazing, very friendly & super helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The hotel has recently had an excellent revamp & looks & feels very smart but retains it's cosiness & welcoming atmosphere. This is our second visit & most definitely won't be our last. Close to absolutely everything & parking is available in the car park opposite. What's not to love?! Huge thanks to the team. You are all wonderful!

Great location, short walk from city centre. Very quiet. Comfortable room with character. Friendly and helpful staff. Public car park nearby which was good value. I would definitely stay again.

We loved it here, the room was gorgeous, great pub garden, the staff lovely and it’s in a great location for exploring the city.

Having stayed at The City Gate on numerous occasions over the last few years my partner and I were looking forward to returning on Saturday for a special occasion to see an event at The Northcott Theatre. As it was a special occasion for us I booked what was labelled as a 'bigger boutique' room on the third floor. Sadly room 21 was not a bigger room at all, and was somewhat smaller than rooms that I have previously stayed in on the first floor, and the bathroom was small and cramped. We could also not find a functioning tv remote in the room, and a lady from reception kindly came to the room with a sky remote for us, but as the sky box is located behind the television you could only change the channel by standing at the side of the tv. There was also no remote control for the tv itself, so volume could not be changed at all. I did enquire at reception about the possibility of changing rooms, I understand that all rooms were taken though. I do not believe that room 21 should be labelled as a 'bigger boutique' room, and whilst it was comfortable enough for just the one night we would not have stayed a second night. Overall we were both disappointed with the higher price that we paid for a room that was clearly not a 'bigger boutique' as advertised.

An iconic Pub with Rooms. Perfect in every way, especially for those traveling from abroad seeking charming British culture and history. The staff, in its entirety, was delightful and went out of their way to be of service with a smile. The food was excellent and the room itself was charming. Not expected was one of the nicest walk in showers we have experienced in England. We will absolutely return.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at City Gate Hotel. Our check in process was great. We had a spacious room with a little sweet treat to welcome us. Dinner and breakfast each morning were exceptionally good.

Nice city centre boutique hotel.

The City Gate Hotel and Pub was very relaxing. The staff was over the top great customer service. No ask was too big. Very accommodating. Wonderful options for their free breakfast. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Coffee, tea and an assortment of yummy things provided in your room gives you a feeling of high end luxury. Our room and insuite bathroom was recently beautifully remodeled. Old English but more modern. The old english pub downstairs was comfortable, warm and inviting. The sunroom open for breakfast was bright and cheerful. It was well worth the price. When we come back to Exeter we will stay here.
