Égalité du mariage depuis Obergefell v. Hodges (26 juin 2015).

The honest summary: Cleveland (372,624 people at the 2020 Census) has a small, steady gay scene that lives on the West Side, not downtown. Five of its six LGBTQ+ bars sit along Detroit Avenue, Clifton Boulevard and Lorain Avenue, a few minutes' drive from each other. The sixth is Ohio's oldest gay bar, the Leather Stallion, just east of downtown. There's also a 24-hour men's bathhouse, FLEX Spas. It doesn't have a walkable gay strip, a lesbian bar or, since 2026, the CLAW leather weekend. Come for Pride in the CLE in early June, or any weekend for Twist and the Detroit Avenue bars.
Legal in one line: Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2015 (Obergefell v. Hodges began as an Ohio case). Ohio has no statewide LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination law, but Cleveland's ordinance and Cuyahoga County's 2018 ordinance cover sexual orientation and gender identity. State law bans gender-affirming care for minors (HB 68) and restricts trans students' bathroom use (SB 104, 2024). A House-passed drag bill (HB 249, March 2026) was still waiting for a Senate vote in October 2026. The age of consent is 16.
Where the scene is
Forget older guides that put Cleveland's gay nightlife downtown or in the Warehouse District. In 2026 it's on the near and far West Side:
Detroit Avenue, from Gordon Square to West 117th: the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland is at 6705 Detroit in the Gordon Square Arts District. Cocktails is further west at 9208 Detroit, and The Hawk and No Class sit next door to each other at 11213-11217 Detroit.
Edgewater:Twist Social Club is at 11633 Clifton Boulevard, by the Lakewood line. Cleveland Scene readers have voted it the city's best LGBTQ+ bar three years running (2024-2026).
West Park:Vibe Bar + Patio is a neighbourhood bar on Lorain Avenue, the furthest west of the group.
East of downtown: the Leather Stallion Saloon on St Clair Avenue and FLEX Spas Cleveland on Hamilton Avenue are about a kilometre apart, but 8-10 km from the West Side bars.
Lakewood, the inner suburb just west of Edgewater, had an LGBTQ+ hub at Studio West 117. It closed on 28 December 2025 over unpaid taxes (Ideastream), and we found no LGBTQ+ bar in Lakewood in 2026.
Bars
Twist Social Club is the biggest and the one that gets a dance crowd, with DJs every weekend plus drag, trivia and karaoke. It opens at 3pm on weekdays and 10am at weekends. Leather Stallion Saloon opened in 1970 and is Ohio's longest continuously operating gay bar. It's a leather and Levi bar by name, with a pool table, a patio and Sunday cookouts in summer. Cocktails is a hangout bar with two pool tables and drag on Friday and Saturday around midnight. The Hawk has been a gay bar since 1976, a quiet dive with a jukebox. No Class used to be the punk bar Now That's Class and now calls itself a queer venue: Yellow Scene called it "Cleveland's gay metal bar" in 2025, and it runs drag, Drag Race watch parties and a Sapphic Social night alongside punk and metal gigs. Vibe Bar + Patio has a big brick patio and karaoke on Tuesdays. Most bars close at 2:30am. Full details are in our Cleveland gay bars guide.
FLEX Spas Cleveland at 2600 Hamilton Avenue is the only gay bathhouse in the Cleveland area: men only, open 24 hours, in a 1939 Art Deco building that used to be a Greyhound station. Travel Gay lists indoor and outdoor pools, a steam maze, dry and Russian saunas and a gym. Membership is required at the door, so bring photo ID.
Edgewater Park on the lakefront has a long cruising history, and Queer Cleveland Histories documents Metroparks ranger stings there in the 1990s. We found no recent source confirming current activity, rangers patrol the park, and public sex is a crime in Ohio under the public indecency law. FLEX and the bars are the legal options.
Pride in the CLE is run by the LGBT Community Center. It's a one-day march from Public Square and a free festival on Malls B and C downtown, held on the first Saturday in June. The 11th edition was on 6 June 2026, and the 2027 date hadn't been announced at the time of writing. The Center's own calendar at 6705 Detroit Avenue runs support groups, game nights and free walk-in HIV/STI testing most weeks. The North Coast Men's Chorus performs its 2026-27 season at the Maltz Performing Arts Center, and the Cavaliers hold an annual Pride Night.
CLAW (Cleveland Leather Annual Weekend) is no longer in Cleveland. Organisers said in October 2025 that they couldn't get contracts with any Cleveland hotel or venue, and CLAW 26 was held at the Hyatt Regency Columbus in April 2026 (Buckeye Flame).
Closed or changed: gone but still Googled
Villafortè's Social Lounge (12524 Lorain Ave): closed; the address is now a different, non-gay lounge.
Shade Nightclub (Old Brooklyn): closed.

CLAW: moved to Columbus for 2026.
Bar Cento and Townhall in Ohio City are mainstream restaurants. Some older guides listed them as gay bars, but they aren't.
Practical tips
Getting around: the bars are spread out, so plan on rideshares or a car. The RTA Red Line runs from Cleveland Hopkins Airport (CLE) to Tower City downtown, with West Side stops on the way.
Where to stay: stay downtown for the Leather Stallion and FLEX, or in Ohio City for the shortest ride to Detroit Avenue. See our Cleveland hotels list.
When: June brings Pride and patio season. Winters are snowy and quieter, but the bars stay open year-round.
Health: the LGBT Community Center offers free walk-in HIV/STI testing; check lgbtcleveland.org for this week's times.
