We chose Columbia Inn solely for its proximity to Merriweather Pavilion, and unfortunately, that's about the only positive thing I can say. Upon arriving back at the room after a night out, we found ourselves locked out and unable to get in. We had to call the after-hours number just to get someone to let us back into our own room. Once inside, things didn't improve. The toilet wouldn't flush properly, the water kept running and filling the bowl, rendering it completely unusable throughout the night. The bathroom faucet was faulty and sprayed water upward, making even basic hand-washing an ordeal. The carpet near the exterior door had visible water stains, which was not a comforting sight. The room itself was very outdated. There were no fans or A/C controls accessible from inside the room; if you wanted the temperature adjusted, you had to contact the front desk to do it for you. The beds were squeaky and uncomfortable, making a good night's sleep nearly impossible on top of everything else. The only reason we stayed here was the location near Merriweather Pavilion. Unless proximity is your sole priority, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. There are too many fundamental issues..plumbing, access, climate control, and overall room condition to justify a return visit.
I booked a one night stay in the Jacuzzi/O Suite for my boyfriend and I as a romantic local getaway. I grew up around this area and thought it would be nice to do a staycation here since I wanted to support a local business. I think maybe a long time ago this place was very nice to stay at, but it's definitely not the same standard anymore. It seems as if no one even bothered to check the condition of the suite before we arrived, and it really showed. When we got into the suite there was a wasp in the room. The wasp was in there because the window behind the bed was cracked open and no one thought to check the room before we got there. Luckily my boyfriend was able to get it out the room without any injuries. The carpet definitely hadn't been vacuumed in a while and you could see crumbs and debris on the floor. The sheets and bedding had stains on it as if they just tidied up but didn't even wash them. There were stains and discolorations on the walls, which was weird because it looked like the ceiling had been freshly painted, but they decided not to paint the walls? And one of the outlets on the side of the bed was entirely out of the wall with the inner wires exposed. The fireplace remote was entirely broken, but luckily we could still turn it on without it. The suite was incredibly hot when we got there. I know the suite isn't booked all the time, but if you know guests have booked the suite they should have cooled the room down. There was a wall AC unit in the room and it worked really well to cool the room down, but the unit dripped the entire time into a plastic tupperware with a bunch of towels underneath of it and it filled up every couple of hours so we had to keep emptying it so it wouldn't get all over the carpet. The one part of the suite that was nice was the bathroom. The jacuzzi tub and the shower were really nice. I liked that there were handles on the walls for the tub for the mobility impaired like me. I knew there were a bunch of stairs without an elevator when I booked this place, so I won't knock them for that. What I will knock them for was the incredible lack of hospitality when I realized there were no extra toilet paper rolls in the room at all. We only have one roll and was basically entirely used. I called the front desk to ask about more toilet paper but the front desk wouldn't bring it up to us, we had to go down and back up the numerous steps to get some even though it's their responsibility to make sure we had what we needed in the first place. Also checkout was at 11am and there was no one at the desk when we were trying to leave, even though the front desk lady said the desk is manned from 8am-10pm. Overall, this place was not worth the $400 I spent for the one night and I would not recommend anyone stay here. It's honestly a shame because this place has a lot of potential to be really nice. There's other boutique hotels or bed & breakfasts in the area where you'll have a better experience that is worth that price. It doesn't seem like they were even trying to give us a good experience.
The inn was an interesting experience. My husband booked a night for me as a gift but because he booked it with his card and his card wasnt with me they had to charge mine. It made no sense. I can understand needing a card on file for incidentals, but I did not understand needing to refund his card and charge mine the full amount. My door did not have a deadbolt lock or door latch which did not make me feel the most comfortable. Besides that, the room was so freaking hot! They need fans immediately, it was not a pleasant sleep experience. Room was not super clean. The drain in the tub struggled. Maybe at one point this place was worth 4 stars but that was not my experience.
Rooms were clean and cozy, very private. Relaxing atmosphere, definitely would go there again.
Drove by and wanted to tour it. Pulled into the parking lot. Never got out of the car. Curb appeal the place looks run down. Didn't even want to go inside for a tour.
It’s luxury! Definitely wouldn’t mind staying here again. Thanks!
I can see there are already a number of reviews stating similar issues to what we had so I won't spend too much time on them. The gist of my experience- My Wife and I decided to come there on our Honeymoon. The receptionist was in a backroom when we came out and just looked at us and didn't greet us. I had to tell her that we were there to check in. She then proceeded to tell us, she didn't think they had any check in's today. I had no idea what to tell her because we clearly were scheduled to check in that day. Apparently, all it took was a quick 1 minute search on her computer to see that we indeed were scheduled to check in that day- they just weren't ready for us. Then no one told us that we needed to have to Physical card with us that we used to book the room so that they could scan and make a copy of it. So although I gave the lady multiple forms of verification through apple wallet and the actual app for the Credit card where you could easily match the number that I had already given them over the phone, she would not even check with Management so as to see if that would suffice. So we ended up putting it on my Wife's Credit Card instead- so what was supposed to be a nice surprise for her wound up being something she had to see the price for and make the payment for. Then we got to the room, got all of our luggage going up and down the very long stairway since we were on the top floor... after finally getting settled and changed, we were looking to connect and could not find any Wifi information. I had to call the number, the same lady picked up and told us that she forgot to give us the WIfi info. But instead of running it up to us, as it was yet another area where she dropped the ball due to lack of preparation, she told us that we could come back down and get it. Then we found that the room was way too hot. We were sweating in the sheets of the bed. We tried to turn on the AC unit and it did not work. We turned it all the way down to the lowest setting and it took more than 8 hours to even feel slightly cooler. We brought all of this up to the Manager Vada the next day and it was just handled egregiously. She tried to excuse everything, and even tried to place the blame on us for not calling in the middle of the night but we were thoroughly confused by the lady at the front desk telling us that she would be there until 6. She did not tell us someone else would be available, nor did we see any people downstairs at night. Thankfully there was some common sense used that all of the other things with the receptionist could not be excused however the handling of it was still unacceptable. She kept pointing toward what she would do in the future, "we'll talk to her so that in the future... I'll call maintenance so that in the future" which made absolutely no impact on what we went through in the present. After laying out the case of all of this she asked me what would I like her to do? I told her I really couldn't believe she was asking that question as the Manager. Any respectable business would take care of a customer when the experience was botched that badly. She did not take care of the stay or offer us a future one. She did eliminate our $50 early check in fee and allowed us to check out a few hours later which I guess she thought was sufficient for ruining a honeymoon.
