I have stayed at a lot of inns. None have come close to the beautifully appointed Ellwanger estate. Each room is unique and has its own bathroom where everything works! The mattresses are incredibly comfortable. Rosemary is wonderfully accommodating and makes each breakfast from locally sourced ingredients.. highly highly recommend.

We love the Ellwanger Estate! We discovered it on our first visit to Rochester to visit our son in graduate school at U of R and stayed there for all of our visits! We love the beds, the decorations, Rosemary's amazing hospitality and food, and although happy our son just graduated...we will miss our visits here!

Update 6/2025: Another stellar visit at the Ellwanger mansion. Breakfast was hearty and delicious. Rosemary is the perfect innkeeper; attentive and accomodating. We'll be back here. 6/2023: We had a great week at Ellwanger’s Estate. A great oasis near the urban center and close to the park and cemetery for lovely walks. We look forward to going back. Rosemary is a great host, gourmet breakfast was exquisite.

My four day stay at The Ellwanger Estate with the fabulous Host, Rosemary Janofsky, Innkeeper/Owner was beyond my expectations. Every detail from the greetings online, at the door upon arrival, and the tour of the house made me feel welcome. The pristine bedding and bed were perfect for a restful night after a busy day! I can't forget to mention the home and room's fine antiques, and art reminded me to think about Rochester's history. The wall murals in the bedroom I stayed in made me feel like I was in Scotland. Each morning the breakfasts were unique and outstanding with fruit plate to start, a tasty prepared main course and baked good or a simpler breakfast could be presented. I also truly loved seeing the wildlife greeting me when I arrived or departed; rabbits, a doe and a buck and a groundhog. The garden was delightful to stroll in the morning before leaving for the day. I will be back!
