About this place Top of the Mark

Top of the Mark is the rooftop cocktail lounge of the InterContinental Mark Hopkins on Nob Hill, open since 1939, with windows on all sides looking over the bay, downtown and the Golden Gate. It is a mainstream hotel bar, gay-friendly rather than gay, and the draw is the view and the long martini menu more than the food. Our hours show late afternoon until 23:00 most nights and past midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Prices are hotel-bar level. Arrive around sunset for a window seat, and take a cab or the cable car up California Street rather than walking the hill.

We visited Top of the Mark with our kids for a nostalgic visit. My husband and I used to come here on dates years ago, so it was special to return and share the view and memories with our family. The views are still beautiful and the drinks were good, though the overall experience feels more tourist-focused than it did in the past. The food was decent, and the kids enjoyed their hummus, pita, and chips. It’s still worth visiting for the history and views, but it feels more like a landmark stop now rather than the lively cocktail lounge it once was.

Fantastic view, service was good but the food came out cold, it’s had its heyday, put a bit of effort , change the carpets at the very least , it feels kinda dated

Delightful time sitting at the bar with Arman even though the fog didn’t really give us a city view. Well on our way to 100 martinis!
