Hotel Clariana

5 stars for the staff and location, 4 stars for the physical building. Every employee was so friendly and accommodating. The hotel was perfectly located for everything we were doing that weekend- walking distance from SAP, convenient to the highway, very easy to navigate from/to, even thought I had never been to San Jose before. Lots of dining and bar options within walking distance. Parking was included in the room rate, which was a huge perk. An older hotel, but with all the benefits therein- light breakfast in the morning, coffee and minibar in the room, cable TV, trial-size soaps and plenty of towels. Room was clean. But also some of the negatives of an older building— the walls are thin. No noise from neighboring rooms, but we could hear every hallway conversation. Also, the windows are singled paned and our street-facing room caught a LOT of noise. People arguing, car mufflers and speaker systems, unhoused people yelling (it’s a downtown, there is a transient presence, but nothing wild)— it was all very audible. I am a heavy sleeper, so it wasn’t too much of a problem, but if you are sensitive or traveling for work and need quiet, I would take it into consideration. Also, the wifi was quite weak. Still, I would stay here again.

Absolutely awful experience, avoid this hotel at all costs. The place was filthy and smelled terrible, the hallway reeked of dirty socks. We found cockroaches several days in a row, in the bathroom, on the carpet, even near the bed. Under the bed was full of dust and dirt, the walls were stained, and when you scrubbed the bathroom floor, the water turned brown. I even saw that they don’t change the sheets between guests, they had hairs on them and smelled bad. The breakfast was disgusting, and they still haven’t returned my deposit. At least there is an elevator, though it only works sometimes. I would only recommend this place if you’re looking for a thrilling survival experience rather than a comfortable stay.

The hotel was very dirty and smell bad, we found cockroaches in the room three days in a row. They haven’t returned the deposit I left, and the breakfast was horrible. Don’t go there.

I highly recommend this hotel! I made my reservation for three nights at the last minute, and they were very accommodating, honoring my request for a room on the highest floor available, with a view of downtown. The concierge and staff were all friendly and professional, and my room was much larger than I expected, and was spotless. I must give a heartfelt shoutout to Tina! She went above and beyond for me when I unexpectedly needed to extend my stay for another three nights, due to an accidental fall I’d taken that resulted in a substantial injury, that required several stitches in my head, and 72-hours of bed rest per doctor’s orders. She was very kind and attentive, and checked in with me to make sure that all of my needs were met each day. The mini-fridge was well stocked with two free bottles of water per day, and the other beverages and snacks were really inexpensive, compared to other hotels that charge exorbitant prices for everything in the mini-fridge. Full-size sodas and energy drinks were $2.00, and the snacks were only $1.00 for nuts and crackers, and $1.50 for candy items. One of the most important aspects of this hotel is safety; for instance, food deliveries must be done at the lobby door, rather than having delivery personnel having access to the entire hotel. The lobby doors are secured 24/7, allowing access only to guests, which is a big plus in a busy downtown area, where the nightlife/streetlife goes well into the early morning hours, so there’s no foot traffic coming into the hotel to use the restroom or to hang out in the lounge area. I will definitely be staying here when I’m back in December!

This heritage property is friendly, charming and comfortable. Built in 1913, it offers clean, well-furnished rooms and polished public spaces with a vintage personality. It's rated a 2* hotel but sure didn't feel like it. We found it welcoming and enjoyed our stay. Our room was well-furnished, with microwave, fridge with two free bottles of water, a Keurig coffee maker and a folding luggage stand. The mini-bar prices are guest-friendly: just one dollar for M&Ms, Pringles, energy bars, cookies, candy and canned soft drinks. We heard zero noise from busy Santa Clara Street in our 4th floor rear room, and none from other rooms either - not with two feet of concrete between floors, according to the friendly manager. The free-standing heater/air conditioner was a bit noisy, but not enough to bother us. The towels were not plush but definitely a step up from what you might expect in a 2* hotel. The hotel has off-street parking; it's free if you book on their website. The included continental breakfast offered a good variety of baked goods, pastry, cereal, fruit and yogurt. The three kinds of coffee - medium roast, decaf, and New Orleans style dark roast with chicory - were weaker than I'd like. For a full breakfast try the Whispers Cafe and Creperie, a block and a half south on Third Street. We did see a few homeless men in the area - it's between City Hall, the convention center and the SAP Center - but we weren't bothered and hotel entry requires your key card at all times. Bottom line - we were delighted with the Clariana; a comfortable room with everything we needed, good location and a charming property.

Overall good! Service a bit tough due to language barrier, but if you speak Chinese I expect there would be no problems at all with the place.

Had to stay here for workrelate, staff here makd me felt very welcome and safe. Would recommend to stay for a good budget hotel.in San Jose downtown.
