About this place Club METRO

Club METRO is a legendary Kyoto music club, opened in 1990 in a converted subway-station concourse beside Keihan Jingu-Marutamachi Station. While it is a mixed live-music and DJ venue rather than a gay bar, METRO is the home of DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER — Kyoto's celebrated drag and queer dance party, founded in 1989/90 and one of the longest-running LGBTQ+ club nights in Japan. Held roughly monthly (traditionally the last Friday), DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (and its CABARET DIAMOND / SALON de DIAMOND variants) draws drag performers and a queer crowd from across Kansai. Check METRO's calendar for the next DIAMONDS date; on other nights the club runs an eclectic program of indie, techno and world music.
