About this place Café Einstein Stammhaus

Café Einstein Stammhaus has been a Berlin fixture since 1978. It's in Schöneberg, a short walk from the city's old gay quarter, and this Viennese-style café and brasserie lives in an 1878 villa. It’s got history; it’s got good food.

They do classic Austrian cooking: rich soups, schnitzels, strudels. Nothing fancy, just well-made and served without fuss. You can come for a proper meal, or just a coffee. The rooms are all creams and maroons, paneled walls, a comfortable place to sit and eat.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a quick coffee – it works for all of them. Ursula Bachauer founded the place, and it still feels like a neighborhood spot, a real Berlin institution that happens to be near some of the city's best LGBTQ+ bars and shops.

I'm looking forward to seeing you again when you reopen. This café holds many personal memories, and I hope to experience them again. Your quality is good, truly good. Surely it can't be that such a beautiful place won't reopen?! Berlin needs this place; Berlin doesn't need chains! So, does the state of Berlin own this?! Where is the willingness to make a sensible investment?!

Anonymous from the outside, but inside it is stylish, high ceilings in an older villa style. We had breakfast, which was super good. Very fast and professional service.

Viennese-style cafe with a very nice cream strudel. A scene from the movie "inglourious basterds" was also filmed in this cafe.

The cafe looks completely different from the outside of the house. The interior is very simple, austere, and lacks any coziness or atmosphere. We went for coffee in the morning. It's very noisy inside, with waiters rushing around, but there aren't enough of them, so we waited almost half an hour for coffee and strudel. The coffee was okay, but the strudel wasn't great. Also, the prices are above average. We won't be returning...
