Bari: Puglia's Growing Gay Scene
Bari isn't a huge gay destination yet, but it's getting there. Puglia's capital has grown fast as a tourist spot, and its big university has pushed a generational shift in how people think. The LGBTQ+ scene is small: Sottovento in Libertà is the main spot; Spazio Murat on the waterfront hosts cultural and Pride events. Bari Pride in July pulls people from all over the region.
The city's real draw is its amazing old town (Bari Vecchia—a maze of alleys around the Romanesque Basilica di San Nicola), the Adriatic seafront, and its role as a base for Puglia. Alberobello's trulli, Lecce's Baroque architecture, and the Salento coast's beaches are all easy to get to. Come to Bari for the city itself and its surroundings; the gay scene is a nice extra.
Pride 2026
Bari Pride: July 11, 2026. The march runs from Piazza Umberto I to the waterfront. They're expecting 10,000 people from across Puglia. The Adriatic and the medieval old town walls make for one of southern Italy's most unique Pride backdrops.
