Hotel Verdandi Oslo

The room is very small, but it's in a central location close to museums and the historic castle.

The hotel is located near the central embankment, about a 5-minute walk away, and the town hall is about a minute away. There's no proper reception; self-service kiosks are at the entrance. There are two elevators, which are very fast, which is a plus. The breakfasts are quite tasty, not particularly varied, but adequate for a 3-star hotel. Everything is delicious and well-prepared, and pleasant music plays. A special plus is that they don't bother you with "Can I ask your room number, please?" at the entrance to breakfast. In four days, they've only asked once; in other hotels, this is downright annoying every day. Now for the downsides: This is a disgusting, tiny room!!! Everything in it is so compact that it's uncomfortable! Just to put it in perspective, you can't even open your suitcase properly because the bed takes up all the space in the mini-room. It's right up against the windows, which don't open, making it impossible to ventilate or let in fresh air. The distance from the walls on either side of the bed is about 10-12 cm, so you can't hang your feet there. There are also two tiny nightstands on either side, perfect for just a phone. The mini closet is more like a TV stand, and it's impossible to work at the desk—it's so small you can't even fit a laptop on it! The shower has no door, so the floor will be perpetually wet! And the towel hooks are right in the shower, opposite the shower head. 😕 All the splashes end up on the towels, leaving them damp. Towels aren't changed often, and neither is the room cleaning. Also, the extractor fan in my room doesn't work, so after taking a shower, everything is fogged up, including the mirror! The water pressure from the shower head, if you can call it that, is so ridiculous that you'll spend an extra 5 minutes rinsing your shampoo off, which is infuriating! Plus, if you go to the bathroom without the extractor fan, you can imagine the effect it has in such a tiny space. To sum it up, it's fine for one or two nights, just to sleep. But if you're looking for even a modicum of comfort and some personal space, you'll be in a real bind!

Excellent location. But the hotel is a NO. Very small room, no water pressure, they don't clean the rooms and bathrooms unless you ask, there are two hangers in the closet that are 40cm wide, and they don't give you any more. I do want to highlight Antom's service (I hope I'm spelling it right). We had a very uncomfortable situation in the lobby with a man who was bothering us, and he immediately reacted by asking him to leave. He handled the situation spectacularly. Both he and his colleague were great.

Hotel in the center. Good value for money. Minimal staff, check-in on site on tablets.

Really good location! Close to the water, the main street with shops and attractions. Easy to check in and out. The room was small and good. The bathroom was really nice. Minus: We couldn't turn off or get the air conditioning to work, so it was super cold in the room. We had a room facing the street where there is a nightclub and we could both hear the music and feel the bass in the room. So wouldn't recommend if you are a light sleeper, like me..

I would strongly recommend against staying in this hotel. A personal item was stolen from my locked room by a member of the cleaning staff. I immediately flagged this to the staff who were extremely unhelpful and did not attempt to resolve the issue. I emailed the hotel manager over two weeks ago and have yet to receive a response. Clearly if you choose to stay in a hotel it is a basic requirement that your items are safe, and unfortunately this is not the case in Hotel Verdandi. It was extremely disappointing having my belonging stolen but the staff's reaction - or lack of reaction - is even more concerning. Treating paying customers with such disregard really highlights how little the hotel staff value their customers.

I arrived at the hotel relatively late. I got the key card, put my bag in the room and went for a walk around town to see. When I came back I got a very unpleasant surprise. The room was dirty, it smelled like a mix of smoke and vomit, the towels were dirty, the pillowcases had stains and were dirty. There was plastic over the smoke detector. There was no ventilation in the room. No window could be opened. The pressure in the shower was super bad. I put this dirty bedding aside and used a sleeping bag that I had in the back of the car. I also couldn't sleep at night because it was impossible to breathe normally there, it was sweltering hot and almost no oxygen. To get the sleeping bag I had to go up to Homansbyen in the rain in the middle of the night and pick up the sleeping bag, which didn't make me feel any better. It was so late that I didn't want to start an argument in the middle of the night with the receptionist. But in return he scolded me in the morning because I hadn't come in the night and complained, I then tried to explain to him that it would have been a very unpleasant situation as I was both tired and exhausted. The receptionist looked at me stupidly when I said that. I showed the receptionist pictures from the room. He claimed in bad English that the plastic over the smoke detector could not possibly have been there before I got the room and suggested that it must have been me who had done it. I then tried to explain to him that since the room smelled of smoke, this must be the reason why it was hanging over the smoke detector. I also said, which is true, that I have never tried to smoke. I also said that this stay should have been refunded. Then the receptionist got even more agitated and said that this was not how they ran a business. The breakfast was boring and completely ordinary and nothing special, absolutely not worth the money. I stay in hotels from time to time, but this is actually the worst stay I have ever had. I might as well have spent that money on toilet paper
