Queer Lisboa is one of the oldest queer film festivals in Europe — running in the Portuguese capital since 1997 — and 2026 is a landmark: its 30th edition, from 18 to 26 September. It is a proper cinephile festival, not a party, built around competition strands and retrospectives and screened mostly at the grand Cinema São Jorge on Avenida da Liberdade, with sessions at the Cinemateca Portuguesa too.
The 30th-anniversary programme was drawn from more than a thousand films; early announced highlights include a focus on Pedro Almodóvar and new queer horror from Jane Schoenbrun. Across nine days it runs features, shorts and documentaries from around the world, with talks and guests, and it draws a mix of the Lisbon film crowd and international visitors.
Practical notes: Cinema São Jorge is central, an easy walk from the Avenida and Rossio, and Lisbon in late September is warm and pleasant. Tickets and the full programme go up on queerlisboa.pt closer to the festival; screenings are ticketed per session.
